7950 CF vs 7970 OC vs GTX 680

Thread Starter
I'm trying to decide the best option for my gaming.

I want to get at least 60fps or more in BF3 and Crysis 2 as I have been waiting to play these games with the right hardware.

I don't want to get another 570 as I don't want my vram to limit me in the future, so instead I'm going to sell that and use that to help fund my new GPU.

I also play a lot of TF2 and CSS , and would like to get 120fps constantly at 120hz, and I'm not sure whether one GPU overclocked is enough to do that, with everything on High.

The 7950s in CF seem like a perfect option for guaranteed performance but I am not sure if they are worth the money over a heavily overclocked 680/7970 if one of those will provide adequate performance alone.

So which do you think would fit my needs?

I agree, which is why I think a single GPU will be better (and cheaper!). I only want to go crossfire if it is the only way I can get the fps performance I want.

7950 crossfire performance is roughly 75% higher than an OCd gtx 680 or OCd 7970. so i would get that if its the same price. thumb.gif

Not the same price at all - quite a bit more expensive to go 7950 crossfire lol.

The only reason I am considering it an option is to achieve a constant 60fps in Crysis 2, BF3, Skyrim and Metro 2033 with 4xMSAA, as well as 120fps constant in games like TF2, CSS, Left 4 Dead 2, MW3, Deus Ex:HR.

I am hoping one really overclocked 7970 will do the trick, but value wise they are not as good a deal as the GTX 680 - just that I hate the reference cooler of the GTX 680.

I'm really desperate to get this bought this week because I can get a decent amount for my 570 still, whereas the more I put it off the more it will decrease its value and I also have a few friends at the moment interested in me selling it.

A single 7970/680 with a decent overclock will not give you a rock solid 60 fps all the time in bf3 with all settings maxed out. They will struggle on big maps with lots of players and destruction. People who are telling you otherwise are not telling you this from their own experience, period. Let them proof otherwise on youtube.

Personally I see every little dip below 60 and therefor I purchased another 7970 for CF.

TF2 was running well over 100 fps on my stock 6950 so I wouldn't know why it would not be with a much stronger card.

If you have the money I would go for the 7950 CF.

I Play BF3 @ 2560 x 1440 with single HD 7970 and i am over 60fps 90% of the time. If i OC it more then 1.1Ghz i can get more fps. Just dont use MSAA and you should easily get over 60fps in both those games.
