Yamakasi Catleap Q270 + 5850 compatible?

Hello,

I am about to embark myself on a new venture... Im going to take the catleap to 2560x1440 wink.gif

Anyway, I'm considering ordering one. But I need to know if my 5850 will run it. Some of the ebay sellers have a table in their listing that says that 5850/70's are not compatible, yet the 5830 is (I think some OCN members are running it with 5850/70's w/o a problem).

I am being told that I need a dvi-d port in my GPU, but I only have the two dvi-i's. Is this true?

And do you guys think thats why its not compatible? If this is a problem, would I have to get the HDMi version? And do you guys know if I would also need a dvi-d with an HP zr2740w ?

Any input is greatly appreciated.

Thank you

I don't believe the GPU that you have would make a difference, as long as supports a resolution of 2560x1440. And there would really be no point in getting the HDMI version unless you wanted to hook up a console, camera, or Blu-ray player to it as HDMI only supports 1920x1080.

DVI-I dual link will work just fine. DVI-I carries both analog signal giving you the ability to run analog displays. DVI-D only carries digital signals.

I use a 5870 and it works fine except for the BIOS, which just doesn't get shown. Sucks for if you need to troubleshoot/change stuff/boot in safe mode, but there aren't any other issues with it.

I checked and its two DVI-I Dual link ports. Thanks everyone, the card supports the monitor's native resolution but who knows how well it'ill perform during gaming... I don't think Ill be able to game at max resolution. Anyhow, my single 5850 runs everything at 40+ fps on high @1080p. Including Skyrim + enb + fxaa and all the retexts... after I did the 4 gb mod I can run it flawlessly without any crashes and I also run BF3 on High at 45+ fps, but who knows how it will perform at 2560x1440.

Thanks for the input everyone. Very helpful. SO I am good with the dual dvi-i, then. Not sure why someoen would tell me if I have two dvi-i, then "its no good" I was alreayd looking at my next option the HPy ZR2740w... but shoot if I can save a couple hundred with the yamasaki, then its a no-brainer for me.

Being able to hook up the PS3 would be nice, but Im not going to complain given the price point. I didn't know that HDMI's max res would be 1080p though. Thanks for the info.

Yeah i just finished doing a reformat so i dont plan to go into bios for the time being... it hink the 5850 can hold up one more year or so.. all the games are ports anyway and the 5850 has been able to handle everything on high @ 1080p at very acceptable frame rates, however, I may have an excuse to upgrade now if I want to game at max resolution with the catleap, I may look into a 680 and an i5 2500k .

Thanks again. I went ahead and +1 rep'd everyone.

Does anyone have a reason why the 5850 wont work in safe mode when using a catleap monitor!

I have a 5870 and I can see the BIOS, Windows' boot up, and Safe Mode without trouble. Of course, I have a Crossover instead of a Catleap.

Do I need an aftermarket power-brick? Or does it come with everything I need?

Thanks
