Bulldozer vs Phenom II - Page 2

960T = best bet..=90% of 2500k @ 5ghz..Anyone that says i3 is better is horriwrong....Umm..this is assuming 4+ overclocking..
yah..imo..this n 2500K are the best cpus ever made..however..960t=$100 cheaper
IMO fx4100 was the worst chip i ever bought..anyone who doesn't believe can see this tongue.gif yah..and it still sucked
http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=2055340
yah..960t is nice. biggrin.gif
As for mobo..m4a89gtd-pro,sabertooth..ta990fxe..or crosshair 5 would be my choices..(amd-wise)

I'm getting more and more tempted to grab up a 960t, put it under heavy water cooling(120x360 radiator JUST for the processor), and overclock the living piss out of it lol, see where it ends up

All bias aside... Bulldozer loses to the Phenom II when they both have the same amount of cores.

He's right.. the i3-2120 is faster than the Phenom II and it's almost the same price - $125 vs $128 on NewEgg.

If I were you I'd just wait a little while. AMD and Intel both have new products on the horizon - which will lead to massive drops in price. You figure in the new releases by AMD and Nvidia and that's another massive drop in prices. You could build a better system for cheaper by just waiting 4-6 weeks IMO.

I've just checked your CPU-ID and it's seems like you got a big mess with DDR3 memory frequency and timings.

@ OP it would be much better if you post your $$$ budget numbers.
don't listen this i3 advises, it's sucks once you run just few tasks at once, which happens all the time when you run Windows.

Not sure if serious. CPU ID is notoriously known to report invalid RAM numbers.

I guess we should find out whether he wants a gaming-focused PC or an all around workload system. For an all around system I'd probably recommend the 960T, but if his focus is primarily gaming then he needs to go with the i3-2120 - IMO of course.

Then again... we have to consider whether he plays SP or MP games. BF3 and the likes benefit from more cores. headscratch.gif

And voltage numbers as well.. In fact, the only thing it does it right is clock speed and muliplier IMO

I've got maybe $350 for all 4. If Intel is what I should get, maybe I'll get that then. I was looking at a GTX 550Ti for the GPU, then maybe later SLI it.

I'm also hoping to play FSX/X-Plane, and basic system tasks. Maybe gaming later on, but for the near future, just what I already said.

FSX loves Intel chips. I used to run it with my 955 at 4.3 GHz, and it can't hold a candle to what the 2500K does in that game. Otherwise a Phenom II 960T would serve you well in pretty much any game with a few exceptions, but it would still be playable. As for video card, the 550Ti or a GTX 460 would be good if you wanted an nvidia card. Otherwise a 6850 would be just as good.

The 960t is far better than an i3-2xxx, but only if you plan to overclock. Especially so if you overclock the imc on the 960t.
