The i3-2100/2120/2130 all beat any AMD Phenom II X4/Bulldozer 4 core, the AMD's will only start to win when they have been overclocked, which would require a better motherboard and cpu cooler, which ends up being more money, thus having less money for a graphics card, getting a worse graphics card, and having less gaming performance. If its gaming you are looking for, the i3's are superior, as already stated in posts above.

Even if you are not gaming, most of the time the i3 wins. Neither the i3 or 955be/960t can come close to the i5 2500k, (unless the 960t is unlocked to 6 cores and overclocked past 4GHz, which is unlikely, and even then the i5 2500k wins most of the time)

I actually got my case and DVD drive off of Geeks. And when you unlock a 960t, the TDP raises to about 170w. I'm fine with Intel, but I thought AMD would be more cost effective.

that is not accurate. cpuz reads it 161w. locked they read 107w.

if you have the budget to get the sb, then go for it.

I have the money for an i3 or an open box i5, if that works. I guess a p67 board to go with it?

also instead of the 212 grab one of these:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835214023&nm_mc=AFC-C8Junction&cm_mmc=AFC-C8Junction-_-RSSDailyDeals-_-na-_-na&AID=10521304&PID=4003003&SID=6edrztxo4q07
It will edge out the 212 for almost the same price thumb.gif

I sold an OCNer my PII x4 955 BE and an MSI 870-G45 several months ago, he's got the chip up to a stable 4.5 GHz.

You can't put down an entire brand solely because of an occassional lemon or two, if that were the case OCZ would be out of business after the Sandforce firmware debacle.

OP: Read reviews on SPECIFIC products and find out what the general consensus is. As for open box items, if it saves you money and you're willing to consider the potential risks, go for it. Be sure to read up on Newegg's open box/return policy though. Personally I'd much rather buy used components from reputable members here in the OCN marketplace.
