If its gaming you are looking for, the i3's are superior, as already stated in posts above.
Even if you are not gaming, most of the time the i3 wins. Neither the i3 or 955be/960t can come close to the i5 2500k, (unless the 960t is unlocked to 6 cores and overclocked past 4GHz, which is unlikely, and even then the i5 2500k wins most of the time)

Bought my phenomII X2 555 for 85 euros about 14 months ago, another 25 for a hyper212+ and 245 euros for an msi 6950 about 12 months back. And my decent motherboard for about 90 euros bach then.
PhenomII X2 unlocked to X4 and with 1.45 core is at 4100 stable with 2800 cpu_nb at 1.325.temps all fine and below 50s.6950 unlocked to 6970 and with stock voltage is at 970-1375.
I know i was lucky but can you please tell me what i could buy back then?with those prices?which intel with a better gpu?
Not flaming here but there is always the opposide thought......WIth this setup even with an 2400 with an 6870,which is better for 1920X1200?

Guys, you have to remember that I am doing flight simulators, which are very CPU intensive. And inside the CPU, they are FPU intensive. So I guess a PII x6 would give me the best performance, because it has more cores and FPUs than other stuff in my price range.

Well, I'd have to get something like a 1045t or 1055t, because the BEs aren't in production anymore (I think) and they are really expensive.

Why AMD would stop making them before FX is improved is beyond me..I guess they're just determined to shoot themselves
right in the foot with a high-caliber handgun :kookoo.gif:
Do they really think that trying to force-feed new lower-ipc chips onto the public is going to go over well?

Because they sell their current products, not last years products. It is called moving forward. In 1958 Chevy introduced a totally redesigned line. 1957 was a smash hit, 1958 was greeted with lackluster enthusiasm. Should they have torn apart the production lines and started making 1957s again? By your logic we would all be driving crappy old 1957 Chevy's still.

FYI : The FX processor line is selling faster than AMD can have them made. How is that "shooting themselves in the foot"? How is that "not going over well"? Just because a handful of computer nerds who are obsessed with benchmarks are not impressed with the FX line, it does not mean that the other 99.9% of computer buyers (the average computer buyers) don't like them. They perform well and cost less than the competitors similar products. This is what most consumers want.

The competitor continues to sell older products because they have warehouses full of them due to making too many in relation to the demand for them and were not able to sell them in a timely manner. I am quite familiar with the manufacturing business, and I can assure you that "dead stock" and "excess inventory" are not things you strive for.

And no, I am not an "AMD shill" . I am simply familiar with the realities of the manufacturing business.
