My RL friends give me crap about being scared of water in games all the time. There are some games I just can't play because of it, and i've tried many times to suck it up.. but I get extremely nervous and just end up quitting because I feel like i'm going to have a panic attack or something.
Now games like WoW, or GW2.. are easy for me since you can see through the water pretty well. As you said, it's not really a fear of water.. but fear of the unknown. Strange thing is, I can play games that involve darkness like Amnesia and it's still no where NEAR as scary for me as swimming in water that I can't see the bottom of. I know there's people that can't even beat FEAR and I think to myself "HOW? Wasn't scary at all.."

I am not laughing at you guys that go through this, it's just the way you put it also.. i had no idea ppl would be afraid of something like that....
I am afraid of quite a number of things.. I am afraid of snakes.

Being surrounded by ocean give me the wiggy's, but I've yet to see with my own eyes the "REALLY" deep blue, the kind of stuff that freaks you the hell out... total darkness...

Water is not compressible, so as long as creatures don't have voids filled with compressible gasses (at lower than ambient pressure) and are acclimated to whatever dissolved gasses are available for respiration, the pressure isn't really that big of a deal.

Even on the surface, we have several tons of atmosphere pushing on us, and we don't even notice.

Like blameless said, it's all relative. There is an huge amount of pressure on us at even one atm. As an example, take a standard facial tissue and hold it out flat between your hands. Over the surface of that tissue there is over half a ton of pressure on it. So life that evolved down there or slowly moved in down there adapted to the environment.

Deep sea stuff has always been really neat to me. I hope this will spur more explorations down there. This is only the SECOND visit (first in over 50 years) to the deepest known spot in our oceans, and probably the first to get any real data on life down there (we'll see). I'm excited biggrin.gif

Too right. To put it into perspective there have been more men on the moon than have been to the ocean's deepest point.

Loved it when I first heard about this. I've seen James Cameron in interviews and he always seemed to think highly scientific, I just get him and his movies. So great to see him using his power for something besides movies.
