Hello overclock.net I have this really kind nieghbor who has helped my family in a number of different ways. Well he is an architect but he has a laptop with 2gb ram and a amd athalon 64. He has it hooked up to a 21 inch monitor and i feel sorry for him. Whenever he does anything in cad or wow i just see LAAAAAAGGGG . So i just wanted to get some advice ill just use his old hdd /monitor/keyboard/mouse/case/os/ and my old 250 watt psu. I only have like 200 bucks. Thank you
Okay, so I gave it a shot...and this is what I came up with. Unfortunately there's really no room for the cost of an OS, and I didn't include a DVD drive, but any will do really.

The only way that you're going to get an older quad core for cheaper than that pentium is to get it used. And even if you could, that pentium is going to outperform almost any (if not all) older AMD or Intel quad cores (I assume by older you mean socket 775/Athlon or Phenom x4) in gaming performance.
what version of autocad are you looking to run on this rig?
the newer versions are available in 64 bits but can be a little heavy to run. IMHO AutoCAD 2006 is probably one of the best versions, its lite and still user friendly
