Yeop, a couple. First I think I know what kind of velcro to get. And I'm pretty sure I should tape one part of it unto my power supply maybe, but what part of the heat sink itself did you connect it too?

Also, when you recieved your BT did it look to you like the part that actually connects to the CPU wasent very smooth like you see in peoples pics who lap their stuff? Mine really looks rough, like you can see ridges and it sure doesnt show a reflection at all. Should I be concerned with that?

For those who have not installed a Big Typhoon cooler to an AMD mobo,
I'll give a few helpful pointers.
Some mobo's require the existing backing plate on the mobo, and some require
the use of the supplied backing plate.
The screws and nuts supplied are longer and thinner than the stock mobo backing plate screws and the directions aren't easy to understand.

Anyway, once you find out that your backing plate isn't sufficent for the install, you'll use the newer supplied ones. The supplied screws should be tried for length, but replaced at the hardware store for a wider diameter (use the stock ones if long enough).

Once the hsf is in place, the cantilevered load/weight makes you scratch your head, wondering if you tightened down the mounting screws too tight or to loose! Go with the larger gauge screws.

Anyway, once you think your done, I wasn't happy with the load on the mobo, so I invented a cure:
I figured I would hang a support to the outside edge of the BT grill and tie it up to the upper portion of the case. Wire came to mind first, then thought of velcro.
I used the sticky backing of some industrial velcro and stuck it to the side of the power supply unit. I custom cut a length of some more velcro and stuck it to the psu piece and routed it down to the BT and looped it through the fan grill to suspend it.
Works like a charm.
Since the velcro strap runs down to the hsf, I also stuck another piece of velcro sticky to a small 600mm fan and stuck it onto the strap above the BT to point at my ram sticks for additional cooling effectiveness.
There you have it. No screws, no wire, and clean sano setup for cheap.

The Big Typhoon cpu surface area was not very smooth either. I thought about lapping it with sandpaper but was too lazy. AC5 was spread very thin on the cpu and on the heatsink but I get nice low temps without lapping.

Cool, thanks for the tips man. I got AC5 as well. I didnt know I should spread a thin layer on both the CPU and the Heatsink though. I was afraid that would make one layer to think once they were put together. But you say I should then?

The mobo brand shouldn't matter.
Most are pretty thin anyway. The psu is almost always up on top (except BTX cases). The cantilevered weight if supported/suspended from above will help
the surface area bearing of the cpu/hsf to be more uniform and consistant.
Theoritically, its the right way to aid in the effectiveness of the HSF.

I've applied AC5 different ways:
I prefer putting a very small amount on each surface, and then spreading it out "very thin" with a matchbook. Im talking very thin. Works every time. Allow a few weeks of use before the thermal compound cures under heat.
DO NOT USE A THICK COATING! A thin coat will allow you to still read the print on the cpu.

Ya know, I'm pretty sure I will do the whole Velcro thing, but I just thought of something else. I wonder if I could "prop" it up with something? If you can picture the heat sink is going to be laying out horizontaly with the floor (or the bottom of the case) If I were to grab something like say a pen (maybe not a pen) or something that could be used as a support beam I could just jab it up into the head sink itself and then place the bottom of it on the bottom of the case obviosly. Only proble is I dunno if that would effect the cooling. Actually if I were to get a custom made copper pipe and use that as a beam it would probably help the cooling wouldnt it?
