What card for a hybrid system?

Hi,

I'm in need of an Nvidia card for a hybrid system with my 7970 so I can get physx. What card would be best also keeping in mind my psu is only 650w and I'm energy conscious

Anything from a 9800GT upwards would be good....so pretty much any cheap Nvidia card you can find thumb.gif

Oh and is your PSU 80+? Bronze, silver, gold, etc? That gives a better idea, maybe you could link me to it?

Or you could, ya know, sell the 7970 and get a 680 with what you would have payed for the PhysX Card to make up for the money you lost from selling rolleyes.gif )

Why not just run PhysX off your 2600k?

If I'm not mistaken, PhysX is only available on Nvidia cards...

EDIT: Just searched to be sure, you can't do PhysX on a HD3000...

Says NeoPower on the GPU. Also, does it matter how strong the secondary nvidia card is? 9800GT seems very weak...

You could go for a GTX 200 series if you want, my point is that anything will do. And PhysX computation isn't very gpu-tough, since everything else will be offloaded to the 7970.

But I seriously suggest the 680, if you think PhysX will be such a big deal to you, single card setups are SO much more reliable than any kinda dual, be it CFX, SLI or AMD + PhusX. Plus it requires minimum 550w biggrin.gif

Just sold my 6970 for a 7970. Considering I got my oc'd version when it first came out for $800AUD not prepared to lose tongue.gif

Will a hybrid system reduce my performance? :S

Well why stop upgrading now? haha

But in all honesty, I'm not sure about it reducing performance, but multi-card systems are usually harder to set up/configure and not all games play nicely with them. You never know...it may go nicely, it may be absolute hell...
