So what do you all think of the deal? Getting the 7950 for 120 less than a 7970 and 80 less than everywhere else. Its the asus directcu ll, am I right in saying I can overclock it to match the 7970 stock cause if so I think thats an amazing steal and with the extra saved from going to a 7970/680 I can get the i5. Will the overclocked 7950 be a good bump in performance from a 6970 stock reference?

Well I am just about to pull the trigger but having second thoughts, reading through all the posts here is making me very nervous amd have such terrible drivers atm it looks like. Maybe I should just go all out and pick up a 680 but then no 2500k.

By the time your card arrives and you install it you probably won't have to suffer with driver issues for more than a week smile.gif

For what its worth Im having the same debate. I was originally set on a 7970 but now after reading a few reviews I think Im leaning more towards a 680. wiith the current crop of games I dont thik xfire is necessary. Down the road perhaps but now with either of these cards, no I dont think so.

I never actually thought of the option of grabbing a cheap second 6970 and crossfireing those what do you think crossfire 6970's or sell my 6970 and grab a nice custom cooled 7950, is the heat as bad as people make it out to be in crossfire, never went crossfire or sli before.

For what it's worth i've not had any driver issues with any game be it single screen or 6040x1080p eyefinity with my 7970, hell im ready to throw in the towel and go trifire when the 7990 comes out or grab 1 or 2 cheap 7970s from overclock.nets Video cards for sale page on the ocn market, Needless to say i can pretty much max out all the settings on any game, I throw at it while in eyefinity, though two 6970s would also do you justice and the 2500k would be more then capable of driving them.

Note that, When in idle the HD 7k series has something called Zero power core, So it uses about 2 watts per card when the monitor turns off, atleast thats my understanding of it.

7950 and dont look back mate. I just sold my two 7970's and just one is more than enough. Two 680's are good though too.

Why did you sell your 7970s? Be honest was it bad drivers? If so I would rather know cause I could afford a 680 right now.
