Accidentally updated to 12.2, crossfire no longer possible

Thread Starter
My friend has been updating to the latest versions of the AMD drivers whenever the notice to update pops up. With the most recent install to 12.2 he finds that he is no longer able to enable crossfire via CCC.

We have tried the following:
11.11, 11.12, 12.1, 12.2.

None of the above AMD drivers will return crossfire functionality. We have gone to safe mode to wipe drivers since he noticed the inability to install 12.2 on one of his attempts. Ever since wiping in safe mode, each driver claims to be installed properly and everything looks good upon reboot, but alas the option to crossfire is forever disabled.

His system specs:
2500K
P8Z68 V-Pro Gen3
8GB Ram
Sapphire 5850 x 2
Corsair HX 750
Crucial M4 SSD 128
Win 7 64

Thanks for the input!

Is CCC recognizing both video cards?

Yeah. Both cards are recognized in CCC, GPU-Z and Windows and both can output displays no problem.

The only things we haven't tried:
Reseating card
Swapping Crossfire bridge

We don't think it is a hardware problem simply because this started happening right after we did the update to 12.2.

You can't uninstall ATI driver from safemode.

Do a system restore.

I've heard of more problems by wiping drivers or using driversweeper. Just use the un-install option when you run the update program, then run again and install.

Tried the uninstall option that comes included with the updates. it wasn't fully wiping the drivers resulting in install errors, which is why we manually went in with driver sweeper.

Is there a specific explanation for why CCC refuses to allow crossfire to be enabled? The option is there but as soon as we click apply it reverts back to disabled instantly.

Did you restart the computer after the uninstall/ reinstall? sometimes they get jacked up because they need to restart to finish installing.

Try to perform clean install using Official WHQL Catalyst 12.1. Link in sig.

If that doesn't fix it, might want to try in different motherboard. The PCIe-Chipset might have gone bad.

Or Driver Sweeper might have whacked other chipset drivers for the motherboard. Update chipset drivers and repair Windows.

Also, never use the Auto Update function.

AMD Catalyst Release Notes

The AMD Catalyst Control Center / AMD Vision Engine Control Center requires that the Microsoft .NET Framework SP1 be installed for Windows XP and Windows Vista. Without .NET SP1 installed, the AMD Catalyst Control Center / AMD Vision Engine Control Center will not launch properly and the user will see an error message.

Notes.

  • When installing the AMD Catalyst driver for Windows operating system, the user must be logged on as Administrator or have Administrator rights to complete the installation of the AMD Catalyst driver.
  • The Catalyst driver requires Windows 7 Service Pack 1 to be installed.

you need to use CC cleaner to remove the old registry logs.

so first do a full uninstall with driversweeper restart and then run ccleaner regestry and clean all that. restart again and install new driver. i had same problem and this fixed it for me.
