Potential 2500k Damage at 93C

Thread Starter
I was playing a game on my PC, and I realized that my i5 2500k had reached temperatures of 93C. I understand that is dangerous so I removed the CPU and reapplied thermal paste etc. That being said, how can I check for damage. Do you guys believe a single instance of temps being that high would result in permanent damage. And if so, is it damage that i would surely notice, or maybe just degraded performance. I always monitor temps and have never had it go that high before.
Thank you for reading.

The 2500K throttles to protect itself at 95C, so I doubt you did any damage to the chip.

my 2600k went up to 98C with prime 95 with the retarded stock cooler, and it did not damage my cpu though. best to get a aftermarket cooler asap.

its t.j max or the thermal threshold of the cpu is 98C.

p.s did u try 5ghz oc or something? my 2500k went up to 93c once at 5ghz and 1.45v

Dont worry, one instance of 93C wont do any harm. Its months of high temperatures that cause degradation due to stress on the cpu itself. I suggest buying an aftermarket cooler though, the one your using, I assume its stock intel one, is garbage. Prolimatech megahalem, noctua d14, corsair h80/100 are all decent coolers.

Your prob okay, as long as it boots fine and its still stable your good to go. My pump died a while ago while I was rockin my 2500k and I didnt realize it and the machine kept shutting itself down, later I realized it was because the pump died so my chip must have been hitting 100c yet it still worked fine after that..

Thanks a lot everyone. I really appreciate the reassurance. I'll be sure to invest in an after market cooler soon. Any suggestions.

I refer you to my post, I provided names of some decent air coolers. If your on a tight budget get coolermaster hyper 212+.
