Is it a developers fault because SLI doesnt work properly?

like the title says, i was watching a review on a game(not going to say which one) and he said it was 100% the devs fault because SLI didn't work properly in it. and it got me wondering is he right or does it all boil down to SLI profiles?

I thin it normally boils down to the drivers and profiles. It is true that occasionally a game may be coded in such a way that it doesn't work very well with SLI. But generally if a game uses a new engine or a modified engine of some kind it is on Nvidia or ATI to make the appropriate profiles to run that new software in Multi-card configurations.

Ahhh, if your talking about Skyrim, that may be one of the exceptions where the blame lies on both Bethesda and the Video card manufacturers. The game is relatively poorly coded and doesn't work very well with SLI or CrossfireX, BUT it does work to a certain extent and there is some blame on the drivers too. I think with Skyrim it's to do with a poorly optimized engine and the unwillingness of ATI and Nvidia to code multi-card support in for a game that normally runs fine on just one card and is a total pain for them to optimize.

I still love Skyrim though, even when I had three cards wink.gif

Its a bit of both. The devs DO need to do a little work for the engine to support more than one GPU - similar to supporting more than one core. However, that'll only take it to a certain level. Its up to the GPU manufacturer to write drivers that work with the code in order to get it to work. So basically, if you see a game that uses 1 core and 1 gpu, its just a lazy dev. If its kinda-sorta using 2+ cores and a 2nd gpu, its probably a mix of the two. A few devs will go out of their way for amazing SLI/Xfire support (Crysis 1 comes to mind), and it shows. Drivers alone wont get you that far.

when was the last time the industry started from the ground and looked into each line of code?it probably rarelly happen!and only when bug arise!
It happens. Mainly because its a console port, only with added higher resolution textures and modifiable sliders such as view distance and what not. Of course the sli and crossfire is not gonna work correctly. That you CAN blame bethseda for.
