Yup, just use a Y cable, that what I do. Works great and easy, nothing to do, only to turn on myy speakers. Cake:thumb:

your case has the front panel connections and your card supports both hdaudio and ac97 front panels, why not just hook the card up to your case's front panel?

The reason it changes the volume is you're creating a net decrease in resistance seen by the sound card (although each device will see only a fraction of the current based on their individual resistances). Shouldn't be a problem for this card, but when you use a splitter like that you run the risk of putting too much current through an amplifier. The difference here is you are likely working with low level output that will be amplified by the speakers and the headset (presuming both are powered). If one sound source is higher resistance than the other, you will experience a volume imbalance (which may be alright, if you are using separate amplification at both the speakers and the headset).
In terms of general amplification:
If you have one headset at 50ohms connected, then use a splitter and connect another headset at 50ohms, instead of driving a 50ohm load the amp will be driving a 25ohm load. Always check your output ratings and resistance ratings before using a splitter like that.

well then unpug just headphone, and chane play back setting, but still that kinda resistance will not do any damage.

Hmmm interesting..

So you are telling me to connect the pins i connected from my case to motherboard to the soundcard? Can i really do that?

@ other fellow members

I will probably not use that splitter if there is a decrease in volume etc... I would rather move my ass and plug one and unplug the other one biggrin.gif

Option 1: Get extension cable. For 7 dollars. Secure it to the top of the desk. Plug one end into the sound card. When you know what you're going to use, plug it into the end secured to your desk.
Option 2: Use the front audio ports. Definitely take a moment to compare quality though. I had issues with buzzing/squealing when using the front audio ports, but many people don't. It's just something to check.
Option 3: Use the RCA out to drive speakers, headphone out to drive headphone, turn off speakers when you do not want?

Note that the decrease in volume probably won't be super significant.

Yep, that plug is meant to connect to your sound device. If you have an add in sound card, you arent using your onboard sound (unless you are using both sound devices) so there is no reason to connect your front audio ports to your mobo. Disable the onboard sound in the bios and connect the front ports to the creative sound card

Yep, you can connect it to the front panel of case and plug your headphones (or speakers) in there. You will just need to switch which you want to listen to via software, as i mentioned in the first post, because it won't output sound from both simultaneously (or at least i couldn't get it to).

It is possible to output sound from 2 different programs to 2 different sound devices at the same time, but the programs have to allow you to select the desired sound device (teamsound was one that i can think of)
