The documentation never outright says it has two DL-DVI ports.

It notes that it has a DVI-I port and a DVI-D port, and that the max supported resolution of the card via digital ports is 2560x1600. The pin keyout is for DL-DVI-I for both DVI ports, but so are the pinouts for every other 6xxx series card that has 2x DVI ports; those all have DL-DVI/SL-DVI electrical configuration.

So is my best option to buy a monitor which has both HDMI and DVI ?

Your best option is to get Displayport versions. HDMI won't drive these monitors at 1440p (ie, might as well stick with what you have atm). Displayport versions, obviously, being quite a bit more expensive.

Was there any particular reason you needed HD 6870 for programming? If not, you could go and buy some cheap HD 5xxx series to get 2x DL-DVI outputs.

I thought HDMI was same as DVI just with audio added. Is it that HDMI on these cards cannot support 1440p or Is it that HDMI on any card cannot support 1440p?

The reason I got the HD6870 is because it was recommended at:

in the CustoMac Pro Builds

I am not sure if HD 5xxx series will work with a customac ?

The spec sheet for the reference HD 6870 specifies a max of 1920x1200. HDMI does carry the same signal as DVI, but I don't know what difference the dual link DVI makes; just know that it's different somehow.

They definitely will, it's in his list of supported hardware. Seems like your HD 6870s are going mostly to waste, if your programmers are really just doing programming and not playing any games.

Which of the 5xxx series would you recommend ?

If I were to go that route, I'd grab some double slot HD 5750/5770s, if you can find them.

The 1440p monitor was finally delivered today and installed here are some pictures:

450450450450

I already have quite a lot of HD6870 cards already deployed. I am wondering how to get 2 monitors to work on 1440p using the HD6870.

Here are some experiments I did:
1. If I connect the monitor to the 2nd DVI port on the card the monitor has no display at all.

2. I have a cable which is HDMI at one end and DVI at the other end, I used this cable to connect the HDMI port on the display card to the DVI port on the monitor again no display at all.

I am thinking of:
Looking for a miniDP to dual DVI cable.
For e.g. http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-MDP2DVIS-DisplayPort-Active-Adapter/dp/B004SUELLC

Will this work ?

So which one did you order Topgun9? And is it because of the pictures, or does the down left monitor has a really blue tinge to it? Which one is that?

I think the blue tinge is due to the pictures.
