Those guys were "discussing" the technique for measuring the heat, and they were having a good discussion.I was explaining in a very basic way what was making the heat.

Last night in class the "before start of class" topic was "why are or why do IT forum members show such rudeness towards eachother? (applicable to your link). No agreement was come to, other than it was agreeded that it is very likely to find a high degree of rudeness displayed on IT forums. I answered car questions on "Car Talk" for about 3 years. At times we did argue, but it was nothing like the IT forums.Car people seem to be more attached to the real world and know that nothing good comes from always having to have the last word.

EDIT: On "Car Talk" we did have trollers that signed on just to either start arguments or keep arguments going. Some people were totaly bizarre about what they wanted to argue about. Some of the worst arguments were about grammar correction and why do others feel the need to correct grammar.I can barely see the keyboard and I find myself making a lot of spelling errors,it is not on purpose.I think I go get some eye drops.

Oh I wasn't comparing to this thread, just sharing an interesting thread on this non-debatable topic: "CPU temp", aka TCase is useless.

At idle, my TCase starts out about 10C cooler than cores. Around 60-70C it shoots past core temps to 90+, where the core temps might peak around 75. wth.gif

Having the same problem, i ran prime95 for 20 mins and HWMonitor showed Max cpu Temp of 66c, while my cores highest temp was only 40c (26C Difference!)
When idle for around 20 mins my max CPU temp was 38c while max core temp @ 26c (only 12c difference)

Now i want to know, for Overclocking. Should i be concentrating on Core temps or CPU temps for overclocking, and how high a temp should stop at? My temps seem to be much big of a difference than some other people, i keep wondering if my CPU temp sensor is broke, i'm using pretty good water cooling and it seems my CPU gets really high temps and my cores do not.

Cheers.

My core temps are about 10C higher than CPU temps: cpu idling at 25C, core at 37 right now. Temps flicker around 60C within seconds of Prime95. Will lapping the CPU and heatsink help drop these temps down?

Almost everyone measures by core, not socket. It's pretty much the standard way of doing it.

if you are talking about a zosma, then go by the cpu temp. it will be 10 - 12C higher than the core temps. keep the cpu temp below 62C (better yet - below 55C) and your core temps will be in the safe zone for sure.

unlocked, the core temps would not even show up but the same rule applies - watch the cpu temp.
