I'm running 3x480's 2560x1600 and quite happy at these settings, pretty much stays betewwn 80-130fps but uses 1480+ vram biggrin.gif
Anyhow I'm waiting it out for the 680's with more vram to see how they do over the 2gb cards out now.

Ultra isn't necessary.

There are many settings tweaks that dramatically increase FPS but look the same.

these settings have next to no difference graphically compared to full out ULTRA and having everything on ULTRA is just pointless because it eats away at your frame rate having these settings is the way to go becasue it gives you a huge jump in FPS and still looks the same as ultra... smile.gif

There is a pretty huge difference between 0 msaa and 4x msaa. I cant stand doing anything less than 4 at this point. Perhaps its more apparent at a 120hz monitor? Also, to those saying you don't need to run all the other settings such as textures on ultra- I forget where the review was done- maybe nvidia's website- but they showed the differences in frame rates caused by moving those settings to ultra was pretty much negligible compared to msaa. It might've been HBAO that caused the "biggest" fps hit

HBAO causes my GTX560 to stutter horribly. I remember the days when 1GB of VRAM was big.

MSAA, HBAO, and mesh terrain are the biggest performance killers

Yes.

until designers/game engines can really capture the essence of what hbao is supposed to create, the difference between ssao is almost non existent in most games.

Edit: as a caveat off the op...I wonder a couple things

1. Tearing is extremely noticeable on a 60hz monitor once you start to exceed 20 or so fps above that. I wonder if the same is true for a 120hz monitor, or is the margin larger? 40fps? 60fps?

2. In addition to above, i wonder if youre able to pull off a minimum fps of 120fps on 3 or 4 680's, for example, would enabling vsync to harness all the frames above 120 cause the same amount of visible input lag as a 60hz monitor with vsync enabled on two 580's for example.
