What does it HONESTLY take to run BF3 on Ultra 120+ FPS - Page 3

Run two OCD 7970's at 1250core each and 1650 memory or more if you can. Run FXAA everything else maxed, forget about MSAA...

If you can wait 2-3 months get the 4gb keplers. Two or three of them (if you go 3 or 4 crossfire will be better but the option is still there) will get you what you want.

Also two 7970's will be DAMN close at 1250 core 1700 memory.

My single 7970 runs at ~80 minimum 58 fps (in B2K helicopter) with no MSAA and FXAA max. Imagine what two can do. Due to ~85% scaling, you'd need three though :\.

Sigh... IB will only be 10% better than SB and probably not much better overclockers. What you need here is SB-E on X-79 so that your quad SLI or X-fire don't get bottlenecked by only 16 PCI-E lanes.

I never said that no. I currently get 120+ on medium. Was wondering what it takes to run on ultra. As I am going to be upgrading my rig soon and something that can run BF3 at 120+ fps on ultra will be able to do pretty much anything I need it to do. K thx bye dont try troll me.

if i am running my 24" monitor at lan parties i get 120fps ultra+FXAA but my 30" i get 75-95fps. I am running 2x6970's OC so it depends, no single card will run the game and sustain it at that framerate. you will be looking into sli/crossfire setup.

not possible!bufferbloat will prevent you !since we all have mega huge buffer everywhere and there is no way yet to remove bufferbloat.you ll have to wait!
if you play skyrim off line you might be able to but again bufferbloat might prevent you !not sure since i havent off line gamed in years!

My crossfire 7970s at 1125/1650 run the game up to ~150FPS max and the lowest dip I've seen so far was 108FPS. I think with an i7 @ ~5GHz and another 100MHz on the card cores I'd be pretty close.

Two 680s overclocked to around 1300MHz with a 5GHz i7 would probably manage it.

You do realize that we don't need to hit 120 fps minimums for the 120hz monitors to work right? Even getting 90-100 fps makes the game run much smoother than 60 fps. My average is 120 fps with 480 SLI with settings on medium. Would be nice to have 120 fps minimums at Ultra though smile.gif Maybe next gen kepler SLI will do so.

Agreed
personally I think 2 7970 cards is good for 120 hz
running one now

GTX 680 SLI would be a better option than HD 7970 crossfire in my opinion, especially if BF3 performance is most important. I cannot guarantee that you'll hit 120 FPS reliable at max settings, though. Worst-case scenario with a few small compromises it should be possible.

Here is a CPU scaling of BF3 with 7970 w/ different CPU's As you can see at 1920x1200 cpu speed is almost irrelevant.

Correct, at least not in BF3

However mileage may vary with CFX and SLI
