GTX 480 gives bad fps in TF2 - Page 2

post #11 of 13
You could try to overclock your CPU, it should be possible to achieve close to 4GHz. It could be that some recent patch for TF2 made the game reguire more CPU power, although that would be strange.

Try 3DMark 11, the physics score will tell you if your processor is performing like it should. Last resort would be Windows reinstall, that often solves problems.

American Megatrends INC is 2nd ****tiest bios manufactor as I red somewhere on the forums. And guess which I have? biggrin.gif Means I can't unlock my bios to tweak anything. Or I mist something cause I looked everywhere about how to oc my cpu without a result.

As much as this sucks I come to a conclusion that my PC is just not that good for this buggy Source game Team Fortress 2. Funny thing is that it was stable 250 FPS when I 1st time played TF2 with this machine. Times changes, valve makes new updates.. *sigh* tongue.gif

huh a 5ghz has the same 100fps... Meh yeah they really screwed it up. I noticed first weird issues ~ 1year ago.. then it went downhill form there and yeah i have the same 100-110fps drops.. With forced ambient occlusion-h.quality its capped ~ 127fps so its not so bad..

@prkl08

You can try these tweaks, if you haven't already:
Quote:
/ use in launch parameter: -threads 4

in console:

host_thread_mode "1" ok // def. "0", Run the host in threaded mode, (0 == off, 1 == if multicore, 2 == force)

mat_queue_mode "2" ok // def. "-2", The queue/thread mode the material system should use(options/video/advanced/ "Multicore Rendering"):
// -2 = legacy default
// -1 = default
// 0 = synchronous single thread
// 1 = queued single thread
// 2 = queued multithreaded
// This setting determines the threading mode the material system uses.
// Value of 2 uses multi-threaded mode. Many users report performance
// increases on multi-core systems when setting this variable to a value of 2

r_threaded_particles "1" ok // def. "1", Determines whether the particle system is multi-threaded.
// This should be set to 1 on systems with multi-core CPUs.

r_threaded_renderables "1" ? // def. "0", Determines whether part of the rendering system is multi-threaded.
// This can be set to 1 on systems with multi-core CPUs to potentially improve performance.

r_queued_decals "0" crash! // def. "0", Offloads a bit of decal rendering setup work to the material system queue when enabled. on(1)/off(0)

and in Teamfortres2 profile, 1-2 frames to render ahead, threaded optimization either ON or OFF (test it varies with drivers) and maybe enhance AA..
