ASUS FanXpert 2 on Z77 Motherboards - Page 7

was mentioned somewhere that ASUS forums confirmed that the CPU fan pins do not support voltage control for fans. Only PWM but the others do

Fan Xpert2 sucks. I was changing settings in bios on every restart. But i will eventually end up not being to control any fans at all. First CHA_FAN2 broke so i cant control the fan speed, only monitor it. Now Both CPU_FAN and CPU_OPT is dead.. if it continues to go on i will have no working fan headers :/
post #63 of 95
I know this is a Z77 board thread but as this program works just fine on the Z68-v Pro (and others I assume) ... I've also noticed something odd: the CHA_FAN2 cannot be controller but the speed of it goes up / down as I change the speed of CHA_FAN1, obviously they are not in the same header.

It could never control my CPU headers unless they were PWM fans.

I've stumbled across another problem with Fan Xpert 2 on my P8Z77-V

Having installed 1.00.15 the profiles are remembered when I open the AI Suite window and view Fan Xpert 2.

However, if I do not touch AI Suite after the computer starts up (Notification Area AI Suite Icon visible) the fans do not ramp up according to my settings. The BIOS settings still prevail.

I started Prime95 and the fans would still stay at the same speed despite Core Temp reporting 60 degrees max temp.

I would then open AI Suite - and I can hear my fans ramp up - with Fan Xpert 2 reporting CPU temperature of 38 degrees. (I've set my fans to spin at 100% above 35 degrees because of this)

These bugs with Fan Xpert 2 aren't worth the trouble... should of just gone with another brand

Edit:
I've looked into this further and it turns out "ASUSFanControlService" does not start eventhough it's already set to Automatic. This wasn't the case when I had 1.00.13 installed =(

I've owned five Z68 and Z77 boards from ASUS. So far I'm much happier with this new Gigabyte. I've also got $100 saved.

Also, this UD3H is what they like for those crazy suicide clocks (BCLK goes to 115 or something crazy). tongue.gif

I wish AI Suite came with proper a uninstall, my system is still littered with "ASUS" services and folders and registry keys after uninstalling it. I give up.

Instead of giving up I went and made this:

after reading this

Seeing all the ASUS promo videos featuring Fan Xpert 2 makes me angry.

I had same problem. So i ran "msconfig" and disabled AsusFanControlService at "Services" tab to stop it from changing my bios settings every time at boot.

I really wonder where Fan Xpert 2 / AI Suite stores the saved fan profiles, because I've tried manually deleting everything I can find related to ASUS in my registry, folders etc and when I install Fan Xpert again, the custom profiles are still saved!

Oh, i have the same problem. CHA_FAN2 cant control the speed of the fan. Only monitor it. I thought i broke something or it broke by itself but you have same issue except changing the CHA_FAN1 does not affect CHA_FAN2 for me. And also you cant control CPU_FAN unless its a PWM fan.

But i do see that CHA_FAN1 runs at 770 RPM while CHA_FAN3 runs at 839 RPM but both are Nexus Real Silent 120mm fans, and both are set to silent in bios. CHA_FAN2 runs at 1000rpm, because the header does not change speed and runs at 100%. It seems to be damaged since it should control the speed.

I called the store today and asked to RMA this board. But i'm not sure yet whether i will RMA it. If it is worth the hassle, since its just 2 broken CPU_FAN headers.

Do you people with the Sabertooth Z77 have both Fan Expert 2 and Thermal radar installed? I'm wondering if maybe they conflict seeing as both try to control the fans in the system?

For those of you having problems with the Assistant fans rerun the auto tune a few times. It took 4 shots for me to be able to set them to around 40%
