I would definitely go with an Xbox slim, I'm pretty sure it has up to date hardware with the die shrink on the processors so it should run cooler and use less power.

OK guys I will be going out tomorrow to buy some wood to make a prototype case. I'm going to try out the tall rather than wide first and see how it goes.

Sorry to double post, but i'm looking to pick up some fans for this build, and I found these: http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=33852&vpn=D12SL-12-RED%2FBLACK&manufacture=Yate%20Loon&promoid=1263#CustomerReviews

I really like the color, and for $5 a piece, its not bad.

Alternatively, I can get these: http://www.canadacomputers.com/product_info.php?cPath=8_130&item_id=040649

What do you guys think?

$200 for the acrylic? Crazy! There's a plastic shop down the road from my house that sells their scrap acrylic for $2.50 a pound.. It's more expensive if you order certain colors and have it cut to size, but they have a pretty good scrap pile. They have lots of smoked (tinted) acrylic if you want a transparent case, and lots of white, and some black. I could get you a 20LB stack of panels for $50... Look around locally for a plastic store (Kel-Tech and TAP plastics are a couple in my area) and ask about their cutoffs and scraps, you may be surprised, but be prepared to cut it yourself to save some $$.

2) xbox dvd's are regular double density (dual layer, 8.5GB) dvd's. Xbox did have a hd-dvd peripheral sold as an add-on that enabled the use of hd-dvd's but no games were ever made on the hd-dvd platform for the 360.

Nice plans by the way! I am going against the majority and like the boxier version as I believe it would cool better than the wide version, and the wide wersion would have a hard time fitting comfortably into most entertainment centers/TV stands. Both look great, and the wide may be a more elegant design, but functionally, I think the box version with the cross-airflow design would offer better operating temps.

I noticed that you said that you intend to sell the finished unit. How much over retail are you expecting to get? You may be hard pressed to sell it as there would be no warranty and such, but I could be wrong. I'm just not sure people would be willing to pay extra just to have both systems in one box. Good luck and I will be watching this thread for updates on a great idea/design thumb.gif

Thanks alot man. thumb.gif I plan on selling it for at least $1500, but am aiming for $3000. I WILL offer a 12 month warranty with it. I would prefer to sell it locally, but if i dont get decent offers, ill put it up on ebay. Also, another thing about the DVD drives is that if there is only one, you cant play both consoles at the same time.

Nice render! I like your design and look forward to the building process.
Just dont get your hopes up too high about selling it for $3K when you can get both systems for less than $500 with a few free games.
$2500 is expecting alot for the custom case.

I tried to sell a sit-down enclosed cockpit style gaming machine which included xbox 360, ps3, mid-range gaming pc (approx value $750), brand new 27" 1080p samsung screen, complete 5.1 reviever, speakers, and subwoofer, and top of the line logitech steering wheel with shifter/3 pedals, mini wireless keyboard, and a few free games. I was asking $4K. Tried selling it for about 4 months here, craigslist, and ebay. Not one bite.

Here's a link to the build log just so you can see what I was trying to sell ----> http://www.overclock.net/t/888554/madkat-games-rc1-gt5-machine/140_20#post_12113186

I was just wanting to sell it to finance my next project. Dont get me wrong I am not trying to discourage you at all... Aim high! (but dont quit your dayjob). There are lots of people with too much money burning a hole in their pockets, I personally just dont know many (or any lol), but the house I was installing marble slab counters in today had $5500 dollar toilets, so go figure- Good luck with the build and the sale of it afterwards
