Thread Starter
Okay. I'm in an entire learning process right now, so sorry if I've been causing some hassle. I think I'm going to start a thread for GTX vs Radeon cards in the Graphics forum. So just to be clear, a i5 2500K so set me in the right directing?
There's a big difference between Phenom 2 and 2500K in BF3 multiplayer. All benchmarks from review sites are made from singleplayer mode, where the GPU is bottleneck. Try 64-player BF3 game and I guarantee you will regret buying AMD. Only games where AMD processors can compete with Intel are completely GPU dependent like Metro 2033.

I made a compare with a friend who has overclocked 470 and Phenom 940. My rig completely destroyed his in BF3 and Skyrim with mods, 2500K was at stock settings back then. The biggest differences were in minimum fps and those are the most important when gaming.

As someone who used AMD for well over a decade, I made the jump to my first Intel CPU with my i7 2600k and it has been amazing. Granted things like budgets and money are a lot easier to deal with as an adult, I wanted a system to last awhile too. I would lean towards the i5 2500k if you're looking for a good gaming system. AMD systems can be cheaper to build but probably need to be upgraded more making it expensive over the longer term.

actually ther is not much of a difference in 2500k and an athlon x4, it is only 1-3fps difference on battlefield 3

I love my i5-2500k build, it is running at a very conservative 3.8Ghz and is very fast.

That being said a Bulldozer rig may work just fine for you, especially if the pricing is better and you are primarily interested in gaming.

At the end of the day the gpu is more important for high resolution gaming than the cpu.

It's tough enough to find a 960T benchmark, alone trying to find one with an OC 960T. And getting that chip to 4.3 GHz stable is going to require massive cooling. or a golden chip. 4.0GHz is even pushing it but it's more realistic.

Owait..It's .300 ms after 1 ghz more overclock..IMO..that's not a lot of gain for 1 ghz more.
here's more..again..the Intel is clocked MUCH higher..eh amd has 2 free cores working ,too.But they're free..and $100 less than a 2500K..not to mention a decent OCing intel board $160-ish

You sir have some amazing chips and excellent cooling drool.gif

FYI: usually when you compare CPUs you have the same ram speeds and timing thumb.gif
Ram speeds and timings will alter your benchmarking results, not dramatically though

Ok, so 3 fps less at stock compared to an OC'd 960T @ 4.0Ghz with this particular benchmark. I am still looking for one that shows an OCd 960T in SC2 or Civ5. doesn't seem to be any.. 960T benchmarks are difficult to find.

I agree with the more $$$ torwards the GPU entirely, but still with a $1000 budget you can probably get an i5-2500K and a GTX 680. Might be pushing it by ~$50-$100 though.

I'm hardly a fanboy, I only switched to Intel since my SLI 570's would have been trash on my 955.
Compare your two systems in starcraft and Civ 5 I cannot find anything regarding the 960T for those.tongue.gif

and for the $1000 build (sorry went over $6.16) That should be including shipping as well.
