Probably a stupid question. EVGA GTX 580 vs Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 2 GB

this is probably a very stupid question. but do you think it is worth replacing a radeon hd 6950 2 gb with evga gtx 580? my reasons are purely aesthetic so that the color of the mobo with match with the videocard (lulz).

i have an asus mobo (black/blue) that will soon be replaced with either an asus pro or evo.

I mean, if you are the kind of person that has the inclination and money to worry about computer aesthetics, then go for it. For the rest of us that haven't found a way to pick the money tree, the difference isn't pronounced enough for me to care on aesthetic terms.

The 580 is significantly faster than a 6950, but if it costs you a big chunk of money to do it, I'm not sure I would.

If money is no object, then by all mean, get the 580. But just for the sake of "bang for your buck" argument. You can wait till you can get your hand on the 680 instead. That way the money you spend will probably be close to what you can buy 580 for now but with a massive performance bump. Patience is virtue, not my case though...I didn't like to wait...now I have to sit on 2x GTX580 Classy brand new...and a fat wife.

wait until april and shed $100-200 extra and get 4gb 680

Honestly, I'd either get a 680, or wait for GK110.

Since I've already got a 580, I'm waiting for GK110 or the next generation to upgrade.

my head cleared out a little with your comments. while it is for aesthetic reasons, i only truly got interested with a 580 only because the prices are dropping but yeah, i wont buy a full priced 580 since it is very close to the 680s price. i will just sit out for a few months and see how much prices will drop.

Man, the marketplace is a good place to look. I saw a 3GB 580 go for $400 the other day and I'm currently trying to get another one for SLI so just keep a look out and you can score a damn good deal.
