Yes, because ALL the other manufacturers have it standard! /sarcasm
No one else provides them, so why would you expect eVGA to automatically? It's a nice freebie and I'm glad to have one for each of my two eVGA GTX 680's incoming at no charge.
They posted on their forums saying many models going forward will, though, regardless, but that it wasn't possible in time for the 680 launch.

Just because others don't provide it doesn't mean that it shouldn't come standard. It just means that all manufacturers should provide it standard. Come on, when you're buying a 500$ piece of equipment, you can't throw in a 20 cent piece of metal (that took the same cost to make as the existing 20 cent piece of metal)?

I would assume the reason they don't ship with the bracket is because they are following the reference design. Could be wrong though. Anyway, good on eVGA for giving them away to those who care to change it out.
not unless they already have sizeable inventory. At any rate, including them into future batches would give them an edge along with lower cost overall.
The free one's are already out of stock. I just tried to register and there aren't any left. I will just buy 2 down the road. They help a little bit. Nothing crazy. My first 570 didn't come with one and then later the same 570SC version had them. You win some, you lose some.
I don't understand why something like this isn't in Nvidia reference design. The bracket isn't more expensive and gives 2-3C better temps, so there really is no reason not to include this on all GTX 680 cards.
As far as I understand, the first reference designs are actually made by nVidia / AMD and shipped to the respective vendors. The vendors then litterally slap their stickers on them, put them in a box and sell them. After launch the vendor starts to source / make their own cards (including reference design cards), and then they can start doing other things with the design.
It would make sense that the first batch of cards shipped with the "reference" bracket and the next batch, made / sourced by EVGA, will have the new bracket on them as standard.
Why not just provide it in the beginning? It should cost the same to make this bracket vs low air flow bracket.
Oh well, it makes you to buy GTX 680 right away.
They don't make the vanilla cards. All that the company (EVGA, ASUS, MSI, etc) does with reference cards is slap on some stickers and provide warranty support. It actually would cost EVGA more money to install these from the start. Especially when they're only giving away 200. 200 is nothing for EVGA.
Plus, since this is so near launch, it makes EVGA appear to be more in tune with the customer and therefore acts as SUPER CHEAP marketing.

What I understand is that they purchase reference design and the chip from Nvidia, and then they build PCB according to the design. If that is the case, it is perfectly viable to include these brackets during manufacturing process.

I'm sure they make more money by selling a whole $500 card with a high flow bracket, than just the $10 revenue from the high flow bracket.
It would be an excellent business tactic to include this on all of their cards. I certainly would buy EVGA next. As it stands right now, since they only offer 3 years warranty based on serial like any other manufacturer, there are several reasons for choosing a different brand. Zotac & PNY still offer lifetime warranties with registration. (All of my Nvidia GPUs have been Zotac).
