Laptop reaches 210F and shuts off when exporting pictures?

My girlfriend's laptop is a 6 month old 14" Samsung i5 450m with nVidia GT 310 (512mb) graphics and 4gb ram. With this laptop, she uses a 22" Acer monitor connected by VGA. The laptop easily runs programs like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom when editing which is essential to her photography business. The problem is when she tries to export photos, normally to the internet; it shuts off.

I installed HWMonitor and Core Temp to check the temps. When either of those adobe programs is open and being used, the CPU temp is around 120-140F. But as soon as she hits export, the temps of both cores reach 200-210F and a few seconds later will shut off. I have let her use my laptop cooling stand which has little / no effect.

I am rather stumped by this, so I figured who else better to ask! cheers.gif

Check for dust clogging the heatsinks.

That shouldn't happen... can you check CPU load while exporting? For all of those few seconds tongue.gif

I suspect whatever browser she's using is having some issues. OR is just throwing a hissy fit.

Well she really isn't using a browser. These photos are uploaded straight from the Adobe software. But Chrome is set to default, thought Windows will use IE for most of it's background updates and such. When I get home I will check out the CPU load and maybe post some screenies, and give it a good spray down with compressed air. We shall see what happens. rolleyes.gif

The highest I ever hit was with a Thinkpad T510 with i5-560M CPU; ran it with Folding @ Home overnight, CPU was stresses at 100% on all cores with Hyperthreading, meaning it ran at 2.93ghz due to the turbo. And, the highest temp it hit was 95C. 210F for menial tasks is way out of spec, considering Tmax is 100C/212F.. at which point it blackscreens.

cooling Might be bad, iam not telling you what to do, just giving you an option which is the laptop probably is still under warranty, i think you can call in and ask for the laptop to get checked by its own publishers which i think is the right option to do if you could not find a way to fix that, if they find anything that needs to be changed it should not be out of your pocket.

Good luck
