Noctua NH-D14 Vs. corsair H100

Noctua NH-D14 Vs. corsair H100 thinking.gif

I am about to upgrade my cooling and i heard from both sides they out perform each other, and i know lots of it has to do with airflow but aside from the case airflow, which of these two would be better?

(if anyone has one of these with a 2600k- could you include temps?) -rep thumb.gif

The H100 gets very noisy at high fan speeds, and the D14 is huge. The latter performs a bit better I guess.

The H100 is plagued with faulty pumps which make unbearable noises. I am going to have to RMA my second one soon when I can afford to have my computer down.

I would stay far away from faux water cooling and do yourself a favour and buy a good air cooler. Cheaper, less to worry about and probably cools better. My Zalman CNSP10X Extreme cooled just as good if not better than the H100 and was quieter. I am going to lose it on my next build and just go with a good air cooler.

The D14 is very similar to the Silver Arrow used in this test.

I'm debating this as well... I bought my D14 for $50 new - should I wait for the H100? Currently using Antec Kuhler 620

"...support and warranties are really good not to mention build quality"
These are staples of Noctua also, and to be honest, while Corsair is above the competition, Noctua is even better.

The H100 has the advantage of being able to exhaust air out of your case directly, or even better, have a constant supply on fresh air from outside the case.
The D14 has the advantage of being way more reliable, because it won't break unless you hit it with a bat.

EDIT: Also, the performance of the products is roughly equal.

Don't put airflow aside.

If you replace the bad 140cm fan the d14 will beat the h100 handily (2-4 degrees). Their 140mm fan is TERRIBLE google reviews or comparisons. The D14 is a pain to mount though compared to the h100.

The h100 stock comes MUCH noisier unless you put it at the "low setting" at which the D14 at stock pwm controlled beats it by 3 degrees on ONE WEBSITE (cbf to check more).

However in your case the h100 will do better if you put a fan in the front bays, put a filtered fan in the back (both intake) and set your h100 as exhaust, or if you intake h100 back fan exhaust.

If you remove your top fans completely the D14 would be better, be in mind it'd be even better if you mount a fan to the back of the d14 and don't put a fan in the back of your case (it'll go out naturally) or even better cut a hole in it for less restriction. This will be much better, although only if you mount your optical in the bottom bay and leave the mesh on and clean the filters monthly (VERY EASY TO DO).

I'd go with the h100, easier to install, thermal-paste preapplied will beat the noctua initially (if you reapply the paste it'll get worse due to spreading), and fits in with your airflow more easily compared to the d14.

Now if the D14 is cheaper for you and you prefer silence go for it!

Both are great, enjoy.
