Let's say out of all the apps on any platform 10,000 are decent yeah?

Now let's see if you can cram all of those onto your phone/tablet to start with.

Then let's see you use all of them on a regular basis.

If you don't use more than 10 apps regularly, why would you download 1000's? Boredom?

If you use 1000's regularly, do you sleep?

I understand they all have their uses but as an individual, you must admit, there's no way you would use more than 15?

Out of the 6 apps I use regularly, I don't have any issues with them, and are regularly updated and improved.

agreed. android apps blow - but that's what happens when devs don't have a standardized hardware platform to work with. i would imagine that developing for apple devices is more straightforward.

The operating systems have different philosophies.

iOS needs an app for everything because there isn't much you can do through the OS alone.

Android on the other hand is practically a full blown OS, with proper keyboard/mouse integration, accessible storage, and a full browsing experience using Chrome. Why do I need an "eBay" app when I can just browse eBay.com as well as I could on a PC? Little effort goes into producing tablet apps for specific websites because on Android they simply aren't needed.

It's no different on iOS. Aside from the lack of flash, mobile sites work just as well as an app. Apps are just more convenient most of the time. I'd rather open an app then type in the URL bar.

lolwut? If my iPhone costs human lives, then products from all of these manufacturers cost human lives as well. IIRC, 25% of the worlds microchips come from foxconn. It's likely that there are a number of foxconn components in your car, your TV, and your own rig. Ironically, the employees that make Apple devices are actually paid slightly better then the rest. Arguably, the cost in human lives would be higher for a Samsung Galaxy then for an iPhone.

There's only 100,000 iPad specific applications on the App Store, and there's probably several thousand of them that are great quality at least.

You'd use XCode. If you don't own a Mac, grab a cheap Intel based MacBook or Mac Mini, and then download XCode (for free) and then start messing around with it. (There are other ways, but none I'm familiar with.)

The problem is Android's lack of slate specific apps. I think you could have up to 100 different apps that you use at some point or another, and a smaller amount of regularly used apps. Games however you can have a lot of. I've got like seventy on my 4S.

As far as I know you can do just as much in Safari as you can on Chrome on Android. And as has been said, using apps is a much better and faster experience.

Pwned. I was just about to post this. Foxconn handles assembly for 40% of ALL consumer electronic products in the world.

Having an android phone and an android tablet, I can honestly say fanboy-free, it's not the apps that kills android. It does a good job shooting itself in the foot already. There's nothing about android that I actually like other than the fact that I know I don't have to use an Apple device. But other than that, it only barely accomplishes the basic needs--it doesn't really excel at much of anything.

That being said, I have an ipod touch and the lady has an ipad2, and I honestly don't see much of a difference between the multi-platform apps. In fact, I think the multi-platform apps are better for android (and it was shown recently that iOS apps crash more frequently than android apps). But the major point is apps tend to go to iOS first. I'm still waiting for Hulu+ access on my transformer... iOS has had it for ages. sozo.gif

The test results are somewhat debatable, but nonetheless it was only for crashes when an app launches and iOS 5 was only recently released.

I don't think it's very much off/exaggerated from reality. I see just as much crashing now with iOS 5.1 as I did when 5.0 came out. All apps updated as suggested. I see slightly less routine app crashing on android--maybe a tad less on my gingerbreak(ed) phone, but actually a lot more crashing on my tablet with ICS (man, whatever it is people talk about ICS being greater, I am not seeing it...).
