semi-on-topic: I wonder if the JSF(F-35) is up to over the cost per unit of the F22 yet?
Actually the F-35 is much cheaper than the F-22,however it is not a adequate comparison, each aircraft has a different role in a hyopthetical future war.Thuis the difference in price is justified.
The F-22 is designed to air domianance, this means it is designed to detroy enemy fighters with heavy ground to air missle defense systems,in it's pure essence. The F-22 will the first machine to get in enemy territory, even before F-35 or ground troops, and all other machinery, including drones etc etc
On the other hand.......
The F-35 is a multi-role air to ground bomber in his essence,it is designed to hit ground targhets with perfect precision. With also a fairly great air to air combat ability.
Regarding the price,it is cheaper becasse the F-35 parts are made around the world by many nations. The F-22 is made 100% with U.S technology, and are constreucted solely in the U.S,wich makes it alot more expensive.Edited by Eduardv - 3/28/12 at 2:46pm
