Wow, you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about in this first sentence, so I didn't even bother responding to the rest of your post. I hope it was sarcasm. The A-10 was designed specifically with survivability in mind

The A-10's survivability in the close air support arena greatly exceeds that of previous Air Force aircraft. The A-10 is designed to survive even the most disastrous damage and finish the mission by landing on an unimproved airfield. Specific survivability features include titanium armor plated cockpit, redundant flight control system separated by fuel tanks, manual reversion mode for flight controls, foam filled fuel tanks, ballistic foam void fillers, and a redundant primary structure providing "get home" capability after being hit.

All of the A-10's glass is bulletproof and the cockpit itself is surrounded by a heavy tub of titanium. Titanium armor protects both the pilot and critical areas of the flight control system. This titanium "bathtub" can survive direct hits from armor-piercing and high explosive projectiles up to 37mm in size. The front windscreen can withstand up to a 23mm projectile. Fire retardant foam protects the fuel cells which are also self sealing in the event of puncture.

End Derailment here as this conversation will get political.

So really, what is now the difference between US and the former Soviet Union? I also like the bit about NATO "focusing on energy security". Translation - NATO will be used as a proxy force for securing natural resources through military intervention. That is great stuff right there...more needles wars followed by perpetual poverty and suffering thumb.gifrolleyes.gif

The Stealth capability of the F-22 Raptor has 2 goals:
- Strike long range missles before they engage in a close combat with russian and chinese fighters without being seen, invisibility is key, because it is a tactical advantage to strike first .
- Survivability into hostile territory with a high volume of land to air attack systems. It is believed that surviving in dense ground to air misile defense systems is so easy with this plane, that it feels you are in a kid game or something. Stealth ,cruise speed, and high maneuver is essential.
The result: Total domination of Skies
The F-22 is futuristic,it destroys anything that comes i front of his path.Even if chinese and russian fighters surive the long range missle ambush ,engaging in close combat with this fighter is suicide. The ability to jam radars, the maneuver flexibility ,makes it lethal to all previous generation fighters
The Raptor's very high sustained cruise speed and operational altitude add significantly to the effective range of both air-to-air and air-to-surface munitions. This gives it a 40% greater employment range for air to air missiles than the F-35.The USAF plans to procure the AIM-120D AMRAAM, reported to have a 50% increase in range compared to the AIM-120C. While specific figures remain classified, it is expected that JDAMs employed by F-22s will have twice or more the effective range of munitions dropped by legacy platforms. In testing, a Raptor dropped a 1,000 lb (450 kg) JDAM from 50,000 feet (15,000 m), while cruising at Mach 1.5, striking a moving target 24 miles (39 km) away.
You can pretty much rest assured that Russians and Chinese already have counters to the F-22 regardless of what you may think that the aircraft can do. There is a reason why these types of things are effectively called arms race. Difference is, nobody actually wins in any way in these situations. We just end up with more spent money and more weapons to be used for needles killing.

You only learn how valuable this technology is when all Hell breaks lose and we need to defend out international interest. While we can't give the military a blank check, I prefer to see tax payer money spent on our defense instead of rebuilding Mosques in Egypt.

BIG difference: one's a sport where you're NEEDING to jump as high as you can to win, the other's national security and you only need to be high enough above the competition to be able to win, where the stakes are MUCH higher than a simple high-school jumping contest.

Many of these people want nothing more than to see us wiped off the map and rule everything with an iron grip based on fear and anarchy. Most advanced by far, but as Robert Gates pointed out, utterly useless in our current wars. I had a lot of respect for the man when he threatened to cancel Lockheed Martin's defense contract if they wouldn't stop lobbying for these planes, insisting that they build more F35B's instead. He did the same thing with GM and their Hummer, as more lives were lost due to the Hummer's lack of armor, replacing it with MRAP (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicles which are much more suited for a battlefield.

The F-22 is an amazing plane, but we currently have no need for it in volume, so let's spend our money more wisely and invest in better body armor and equipment for our ground troops and more tactical bombers for our skies. I'm not saying halt production by any means, I am just agreeing with Robert Gates in that we need to be making less of these planes. After all, where's the Talibans air force?

"Defend" national interests? There's a passive aggressive statement if I've ever seen one. The word defend has no place there. You produce nothing but offensive weapons...and with that deploy them regularly against the rest of the world in the name of "defending national interests". Really man, look at the world around you...

You should be investing money in civilian R&D and to improve living standards in your own country and abroad if you want security and peace. Instead you are doing just the opposite. Instead of helping victims of natural disasters (hurricanes, mid-west tornadoes, etc.) in your own country you build fighter jets. Instead of helping those who were loosing their homes in your financial meltdown you were propping up banks and their securities. You complain about gas being $1/liter and don't invest anything in developing sustainable alternative energy sources but instead will probably try to force somebody to give you more cheap oil.

The money wasted on the production of this plane is just that, wasted. There are a million better uses for it.

Anyway, this will definitely get more political so I'm bowing out there...

Well the chinese and russians have tried to copy the aircraft technology. The J-20 stealth fighter, being the most recent attempt

Sadly these copies are far far far more primitive than the F-22,they lack many many features that the F-22 has

The Chinese J-20 is at the border of being scrapped, because of many failures in the design and high cost production. Russia well,it is broke and it cannot afford making a plane with similar capabilities.

Even me,knowing the official stuff,i lack many knowledge of the secret weapon system and abilities the F-22 has.Just The high variety of polymers employed in this plane makes the F-22 superior than any other plane in the world.

Last I checked US was the one that was broke...with a per-capita debt level exceeding $45,000 and a total national debt far exceeding any other country in the world they are certainly #1 thumb.gif This aside, the strike capability of the F-22 will not and never can be used against any nuclear armed state, especially those with ICBMs. Everyone knows that this is just MAD (mutual assured destruction). So that leaves what country of relevance to use this against? Money suck is a money suck, and no matter how much you try to polish this turd it won't make it look or smell any better.

If US wants to guarantee energy security for the future they really need to invest in civilian R&D of efficient alternative energy sources (not state subsidized corn farms) and focus on international philanthropic efforts.

All the enemy has to do is build a better detection system and they can locate the origination point of the missile launch and send priority counters to scare the stealth fighter away.
Our current capabilities already allow deep strikes onto buildings and land craft.
The fighter has no use right now.

I think not

The weaponry for the F-22 is redesigned for low level radar bounceback detection. Wich means that missles launched from a F-22 will be almost undetactable.

Now,regarding when the enmy locates the point of origin, (if they can of course)

Once the F-22,launches the long range missles, they change position quickly in ivisibility mode going at speeds of 1.5 Match ( This is crazy). Obviously giving them other vector attack point totally different from the last one.

Playing the long range game with this plane is not an option, belive me.When a long range missle is launched from far distance to you,it is more difficult to evade, because the GPS of the missle has more time to predict your movements.
