Which 6870 is more quiet??

Thread Starter
I'm currently running two 6870's by XFX single fan and these things sound like jet engine I have the fan set to manual 50%, but lets face it I don't want to do that all the time as I might want to overclock later. anyways which one is more quit the Sapphire 6870 or the XFX 6870 with dual fans. don't bring random manufacturers like powercolor cause I had to return two of these and I'm thinking of returning these for a more silent model any ideas?

Set a fan profile with MSI AB so that when u are not gaming the cards are not loud.

did that with the Catalyst control center, but I don't want to have all the time to be honest. I still have time to return them. is the XFX dual fan or Asus quiet ? for example I was runing two power color 6870 (died at 10 hours) but these cards were quit and run at the same heat as these XFX single fan. I just dont want power colors again.

These cards are so loud that even when I'm watching media the fan surpasses 50% and it sound like a jet. especially since movies are quieter than games. my case is a NZXT Phantom full tower so it is not my air flow.

Quietest 6870 I've used is the HIS, but it's expensive.

Or you could just get one good card.

Never owned these but a friend did and said they were super quiet...

Looking at them I can't imagine needing to set the fans higher than say 40%, as long as you have a good case exhaust setup.

My roommate has a dual fan XFX, I asked for a quick listen as he varied the fanspeed, it's not bad. I'd say it's a different kind of loud. I have a HIS 6870 (the cheapest one) that just has a single fan (not IceQ), and it can get to a loud whirring hair-dryer-like sound. His DoubleD XFX was a quieter softer sound, much more tolerable, but I haven't listened to it extensively. But from my experience, yes, the two fan XFX (or at least the one called double dispersion) is quieter and has a better sound.

Just received my 6870's from newegg their sapphires and the difference is night and day. the auto levels are quiet and even with load the card is still silent not like a jet thanks for the suggestions if these were to be loud I was going to look for the IceQ ones. but these will suffice. next time I'll pay more attention to when people say it is loud on the reviews I though it would be modereately loud, but it was so loud "specially" when running two that I could just not stand it. XFX needs to work on their cooling for the single fans.

I went through a handful of 6870's, I'd say the Asus Directcu is the most quiet.

I have 2 of the original XFX 6870 Dual Fan cards before they started calling them Double D and I cant hear them over my AP181s in my RV02 if that helps at all, the 181s are running on the low setting also, if I manually turn the cards fan speed up I cant hear them until I pass about 70% roughly, hope this helps!
