Need some reliable HDDs.

Thread Starter

Hey guys, I am looking for some reliable HDDs for storage and programs. My current WD 500GB 7200RPM is getting filled up and the price on the market is ridiculous right now. Almost triple of what I used to pay for.

The HDD need to be at least 1TB or combined RAID of 500GB setup. I guess I'll let you guys decide what's best and I am unclear if RAID has higher chance to corrupt than a non-RAID HDD. I do know RAID10 is best for speed and redundancy but it needs 4x HDDs for this setup and it's out of my budget with today prices. Otherwise I would have done it.

Many thanks!

RAID0 means not RAID (ie. Not a Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks... 0 usually means false in CS)

So, if you were to have 2 drives in RAID0, it'd be riskier because now if 1 drives fails... well, you lose information on both. So any drives in RAID0 have double the chance of failing.

The only reason to go RAID0 is so that you get a speed boost... but from what I can tell all you want is storage, so I'd suggest just using them as two separate drives...

I'd recommend the Samsung F3 1TB drive. Most people agree it's one of the best. I transferred about 20GB the other night of games to my SSD at 150 MB/s (don't ask me about writes as I don't really know)

PS: He said RAID 10.
