Are the FX-8120 and FX-8150 Identical?

Hello everyone,

I have heard that the *only* difference between an FX-8120 and an FX-8150 is a higher clock from the factory. Is that technically true?

Here's the info I found:

Silde_01T.jpg

They look the same to me, but my question is, "Are they IDENTICAL?". Will they clock the same? Why or why not?

I'm not asking whether or not they are comparable; I really want to know whether or not they are IDENTICAL aside from factory clock speed.

If so, I already have a Cooler Master Hyper 212+, and I will just buy the FX-8120 (saves me $60) and clock it to the same speed as an FX-8150. Would it perform as well as a true FX-8150?

I don't really care about bragging rights, so if they perform the same it makes my decision simple. thumb.gif

They are exactly the same chip...

However every chip is different, you could get a 8150 that clocks higher, or an 8120 that clocks higher then any 8150... It's mostly a luck of the draw kind of thing.

That's exactly what I thought.

So, I might as well save myself the $60 and roll the dice with an FX-8120 rather than an FX-8150, right?

Also, I haven't been able to find the exact speeds for the FX-8150 (FSB, Ref. Clock, Multiplier, etc). What are they compared to the FX-8120? I'll just plan on overclocking the FX-8120 up to FX-8150 stock speeds, and then work my way up from there.

Thanks again!

Cheers,
Cody

Save that 60 bucks and put it into a better heatsink....
Bulldozer is a very very hot chip.....
