Hyper 212, i5-3570k @ 5Ghz? Michigan (temps)...lots of case fans (HAF 912)....

Thread Starter
So after some checking around, I have seen a lot of people with i5 2500k's and Hyper 212's at about 4.2-4.5Ghz depending on things. It all depends on how you can cool your case and the temp of the room you are in (most people don't realize).

I live in SW Michigan, so around when I initially build this rig (May 1st(ish)), it will be around 70F on average.

I plan on using a HAF 912, modded so there are more holes in the motherboard side panel, and modded to move around the drive bays to allow for more air-flow. I will also be using a the 200mm fan it comes with...hopefully being able to use a couple of these (from a wicked old build) if I can manage. If not, I will sell them and buy a couple high level 120mm fans, or whatever measurement, just as long as they are something like this. Talking serious CFM.

Do you guys think i5-3570k @ 5Ghz (stable) is possible with this setup? I am pretty sure it can be done. If not, 4.5 isn't bad, but would like to save money if I can and not buy too many high level fans.

I'd also like to know if I can use the 92mm fans I have to mount on a Hyper 212 model (that uses 92mm fans).

Initial releases say it clocks similar to SB but those are non-retail (ES E0 stepping) batches. Everyone's hopeful that they will clock a bit better, but I'm not going to believe it until I see it.

As things stand now, I think not. We'll have to wait for retail samples first, though.

Kalamazoo, moved here about 6 months ago. And that one made me laugh pretty hard. Case and Location specific clubs now...who knew. I haven't built this thing yet and my 912 isn't even here yet....its somewhere in UPS's hands ATM.

I think due to the lower TDP and better Voltages required, we might see better stable OC's but just like you, I guess we will have to wait a month or so.

I have heard that they are indeed running a bit hotter as well. Most of the stuff I've read on this has come from a few threads on XS where they're testing ES chips. Who knows what will happen next...

All I know is that I want a 3770K!

Yeah I see your point, but like you said if people tested the other chips, results will be different.

$350 for a chip that gives you only 10-15% gains (for my needs....video editing) versus $250, is a lot to ask. I'll stick with the 3570k

FX 8 core actually gets worse benchmarks compared to the 2500k, unless you can show me something different. I have even seen videos comparing the two. And honestly, again, for the money I would rather not spend another $100 for 10% gain, I can just use CUDA.

Please feel free to show me a comparison for Sony Vegas or something of the sort. I'm looking for price/efficiency. If there is a 25% increase in preformance, I could see getting a 3770k, but only 10% isn't enough for the $100. Maybe down the line, but not at first.

apps for video encoding/editing/transcoding more threads have advantages also instructions make differences

I was talking about FX 8150 patched also in Linux FX 8120 outperforms i5 2500k by miles in Windows the patch FX 8150 won by few

only in games those Extra threads and cores doesnt make sense to waste 100$ more thumb.gif
