[Official] Max Payne 3 PC Information and Screenshot Thread (Not A Port!!!) - Page 57

What do you think is the best resolution to use on my 1680x1050 monitor (16:10) ?? Keeping the ratio with 1280×800 or use a less standard resolution like 1600x1024 (25:16) ??

Anyone one with the same dilemma ??

I think i used to play GTAIV on 1600x1024, but there was a little stretched and noticeable...

Thank you

Well i just finished the game and it ran perfect in 3D at 1080p maxed except no msaa, only fxaa and SSAO instead of HDAO ( sorry the improvement is minimal at best ) and the game never went over 60% load on my lightnings. Im going to replay the game on a harder setting and try out the multi, any tips yet?

How do you record videos / calculate framerate? My Fraps doesn't work frown.gif
post #564 of 910
The game at 5760x1200 with everything Very High, DX11 runs great.... until cutscenes.

Any cutscene brings the FPS down to 10. Even if it is a "minor cutscene" where it zooms in on something or an enemy pops out and the game's camera changes to show it (ie no gameplay) - it slows down completely. It makes no sense, especially when nothing is changing. In fact, it makes even less sense because when a cutscene occurs - two of the 3 monitors gets blacked out and thus is rendering less at once.

It's annoying. I cant continue to play unless I tweak with the settings more and find out what is the issue.

30fps max? With a 7970? Sooo you paid ~450$ for a card which only produces 30 fps in a console ported corridorlinearshooter with no special PC features or shiny graphics.
Looks good but not that good..

That is completely incorrect.
The PC version has many special features.

DX11 with tesselation
much higher quality rendered cutscenes (almost entirely uncompressed)
over 15GB of higher quality textures than the consoles
FXAA
Eyefinity
3D
and I could go further in detail with higher quality shaders, no texture loading/popin, ect.

This is not just a run-of-the-mill port. It is pretty superb. After having beat the 360 version and just having teared into the PC version, it is pretty astounding how difference the experience feels. Minus the cutscene performance issue I'm having.

Finally booted it up...WOW! What an amazing game. Great graphics and getting great performance. I will say though, the max msaa I can do is 4x, doesn't even let me select 8x. I'm curious to see if there's a way to force the game to run in 8x, or would the performance hit be too bad?

All settings maxed except msaa x4 and hovering pretty steady at 60fps, dips to high 30's in intense scenes.

Your ram is your limiting factor. With 8xmass I get 60fps (v-sync on) for most of the game. Some parts drop to mid 40s, 1 place in the game to mid 30s. Gpuz shows me using 4.8gb of 6gb (just the way it reads).
Think I seen even just over 5gb at one stage, so that is 2.3-2.5gb of vram for 8xmsaa and a big performance hit.

I can run 4xmsaa like butter.
It says I need 6gb of vram for 8x msaa. lol I think it adds my gpu's memory together. It says I have 4gb but 1.5+1.5 = 3 not 4 so who knows what's going on there..as long as it works with 4x I'm happy. Really shows how good these 480's can still be in sli.

On a side note, I get random crashes in this game. Nothing too frequent that would kill the game for me but annoying none the less. Doesn't crash to desktop, just freezes, I can still open taskmanager and close it. No issues with any other games, latest drivers, no oc on my GPU's and no overheating issues so I'm a little stumped. Driver issue maybe?

I went into the steam files yesterday and ran the application from there too anyone know whats up?

I had the same problem, but a fix on the Steam forums worked for me.

You need to copy your Max Payne 3 folder to C:/ and remove the spaces in the folder name, then update the registry with the new location. Read here: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2729965
