Very low 3DMark06 score BFG 6800 GS OC - Woops, not so afterall!!

post #1 of 11

Hi,

Just got my BFG 6800 GS OC and got a terribly low 3DMark06 score. I scored 1243. My old Radeon 9800 Pro scored 575.

I was very shocked. To do the test I set my CPU overclocking back to default, but its still a 3GHz machine.

Some more details: resolution = 1280x1024, no-AA
Also noticed that 3DMark06 will not show the GPU and GPU-ram frequencies.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

EDIT :
===========

I was wrong. I accidentally read the SM2.0 score only. Actually I got 2695! which I am very happy with"
SM2=1243
SM3=1189
CPU=656

I'm now going to go back and OC the CPU to see how things even get better.

Sorry for wasting people's time

06 is a dual core program. Youll rarely see a large increase unless you jusp up big with a dual core. 800 points is a large jump in 06

did you uninstall your old radeon driver first?
do it in the order

Uninstall all your video drivers , both your new nvidia ones and your old raden ones if you havent. Then go download driver cleaner pro.. and reboot to safemode, run driver cleaner for both nvidia and ati .. reboot .. install your new nvidia drivers, i recomend dhzeropoint 84.66 at guru3d under the modifed drivers section. reboot again.. if you dont do these things you wont get good performance from your card.

good luck

he should be getting more than that. i get over 4k in 06 with this crappy rig.

That score sounds rite acording to your rig (3ghz p4 and 6800gs) in 3dmark 06 it is not as high a scoreing as 01, 03, or 05. As for my i got 3063 in 3dmark 06 with my p4 @ 4.1ghz and a 6800 ultra

You should be getting around 1.8k-2.1k with stock frequencies for your 6800GS AGP.

In 3dmark06, do you recieve a SM2 AND SM3 score, or just SM2? You should be getting both scores.

I just edited my original post, I was stupid and read the SM2 score only. I'm actually at 2695!! This should improve even more once I OC the CPU back to 3.3GHz

TO answer some of the other questions: yes I did remove the ATI drivers using the whole driver cleaner and safe mode dance.

Sorry for wasting y'alls time.

It depends. Most MoBos, you can just hit F8 during boot up and you will get a menu with safe mode as an option (there are som variations of safe mode also).

The method I use (since F8 does something else on my system), is the following:

1) Go to Start->Run, and type msconfig (and hit enter)
2) This brings up the MSCONFIG utility. Select the BOOT.INI tab
3) Check the box which says SAFEBOOT. Note that this alters the "General" tab to choose "selective" startup
4) Reboot and you will go into safe-mode

In order to boot again in normal mode, run msconfig again and select "normal" under the "general" tab. You can also uncheck the SAFEBOOT from the BOOT.INI tab for completeness.

Works like a charm and no need to press F* keys.
