MOBO with broken IDE slots?

So basicly, my PSU died about a week ago, and so obviously, I put a new one in and the system worked. But about 3 days ago my video card died, although it did say COPYRIGHT '96 on it, so 10 years is pretty good. Then, apparently, my IDE ports died? I've never really experienced this before. I've put this thing to the ultimate test: 100% positive working HD + IDE cable and it won't boot. The HD 'goes on', I guess you would say, with just the power cable in, and it also works with my 2 other systems. My new PSU also works 100% in all areas so far. But when I take this working HD and put in the IDE cable... It won't do anything. Tried 3 HD's, that all worked, with 5 different IDE cables, that all worked.

Anyone ever hear of/experience IDE failure before?

Anyone know if it's fixable?

Depending on how old your motherboard is, it could just be that it's reaching the end of its life..? I've heard of IDE ports etc failing before and experienced it myself once. What I did, was to go to eBay and buy a PCI add-in IDE controller card and then plugged my IDE drives into that and then booted from the add-in card, as usual. Problem solved.

It's probably cheaper (and probably less hassle) to get one of these add-in cards than it is to upgrade your whole motherboard, but maybe it's time for an upgrade anyway?

Highly-Annoyed

You mean an IDE port? They shouldn't break unless you plugged in an IDE cable wrong and bent a pin or if a part of your motherboard is damaged.

It's a very old motherboard...

Thanks guys. I figured it was nearing the end of its likfe anyway, since it's old. I'm gonna be upgrading my system soon anyway. There was also a 21$ motherboard on newegg... Might look into that for a temprory fix.

Rep+ for you guys.
