Sata II vs III for comon usage

Hey all i am currently replacing my 1156 rig by a 2011. Only missing the MB but it 's on it's way. Know, i currently have Kingston V+Now 64Mb SATA II. I know it's not the fastest SSD out there but it been serving me good for a while now but with this new rig i have access to SATA III.

How faster is it? i mean in day to day applications not for benchmarks, is it noticable? I use my drive for OS and lot's of Office 2010, Powerpoint/excel come to mind.

thks in advance

If you have a SSD that takes advantage of SATA III, then it can be significantly faster, usually you'll see SATA III drives in the 580mb/s+ range, vs. a max of 280mb/s for SATA II - real world advantage? Quicker boot times, quicker application load.

If you're asking your current SSD on a SATA III connector? Absolutely zero difference as it won't fully saturate a SATA II even.

Apart from boot times and transferring large files there won't really be that much of a difference. On SATA II any office program opens instantly on my sig rig, and I don't even have an SSD.

I cant speak for SATA3 speeds but, with an old X2 6400+ most of my programs are instant when loaded from the SSD. However, I would imagine that if you played a lot of higher end games then the speed boost of sata 3 would greatly decrease load times, but like you said this was for common usage. Who shuts their pc off anymore anyways tongue.gif

I have a SATA3 SSD on a SATA2 motherboard, and the difference over traditional HD's is great. It reboots so fast, programs open instantly, games load fast, it''s stellar.
