Residential sized windmills producing a steady flow of hydrogen from water...that's my solution. Each house would generate it's own power. Automobiles could run off hydrogen, and I would imagine a small farm sized windmill to produce enough electricity for a small family to survive comfortably.

Will never happen, densely placed Windmills are downright dangerous.

If one fails, thats a few tonnes of metal being uncontrollably swung through the air at something/sometone.

We will always use Coal, always use Crude oil based products. Nothing will change anytime soon.

RESIDENTIAL SIZED windmills, like those that are currently used by farmers. Not even remotely close to that size. All these nuclear supporters saying to do some research should take their own advice quite honestly.

Right.... Point stands, you don't want anything near a failing windmill.

Nuclear is safe. Granted your country is not prone to earthquakes every year, and is of modern construction.

God, you can't be that dense. It would be no more dangerous than a balcony, satellite dish, windows, etc. Not even going to give you another response because you make no sense. Should we uproot all trees and hydro poles as well because they could hurt someone if they fell? Come on now, use that thing between your ears. Not even sure if you know what a farm type windmill even is or looks like. They are used all the time in the agriculture industry by independently owned family farms to supply power to their barns and sheds. From what I see, there is just as much ignorance on both sides of this argument. Jesse here didn't even put any though into my suggestion at all, just immediately shot it down with the "nuclear is the end all" argument, even though I didn't say anything about ditching nuclear energy altogether. There all alternatives though for those willing to use their brain. They may not be the most practical solutions, but I believe we as humans need a life style change, not force the earth to find ways to cope with our current lifestyle progression. But all anyone else seems to care about is their own time on this planet and could care less what happens after their own existence.

Put words in my mouth?

We don't need to change our lifestyle, just need to hand out condoms so the corrupt and biased don't contaminate the world.

Nothing will replace Coal or Nuclear efficiently anytime soon. Good luck powering your population with Solar and Wind.
Weather won't stop me from burning coal, but sure could blackout an area if on "Renewable."

Worse thing is, the Area to power ratio of Solar and Wind is horrid.

Not sure what words I was putting in your mouth, I was drawing the conclusion that if you think a 600lb (est.) windmill would be so dangerous, even though they are currently used all over in the agriculture industry, than you must logically think any other object of a similar mass that has potential to fall or break from heights is equally as dangerous. Otherwise, I can't predict or base an valid opinion on the illogical. You're obviously incapable of grasping the concept...you're still way off base as to what I proposed, and sounding more and more like you have no idea what I am talking about every post you make. Wind power to create hydrogen from water...And just so you know, there are many private residences that are already completely off the grid, proving it is possible, though current tech makes it a costly investment. But, think about how much electricity costs currently...I think I probably pay about $2000 a year. So let's say you own a house for 30 years and spend $2000 a year on electricity...that's $60,000. I am sure you could be off the grid for $60,000. And if homes were built around this concept, and nothing needed "retro-fitted", the cost would be substantially less.

And those aren't the only type of wind generators, and definitely not even close to the ones I was referring to.

i bet you will find less and less people these days who remain in their house for that long. Also i only pay about $600/yr in electric. do you know how many years then it would take to go off the grid? Not to mention wind is not exactly predictible, there are no guarantes in its output
