quick concern about my Gskill DDR2 800 memory

Thread Starter
I'm building a new Conroe system using the Asus P5B Motherboard that everyone has been telling me to buy but to my surprise I read in the motherboard manual that DDR2 800 memory with a CL=4 will be downgraded to DDR2 667.

Did I waste money then by buying the G-Skill 800 that everyone said would be a great idea?

Don't sweat it. The BIOS sets it to that to match the FSB of the Core 2 Duo's. When you overclock (Bump up your FSB), you're guaranteed to get DDR2-800 speeds.

It's downgraded when you set everything to AUTO but that's what your hands are for....use the powah Luke!

Anyhow, I got my DDR2 800s doing 1000mhz: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc?id=128537

BTW, you can set the memory to a 2:3 ratio for stock speeds and you'll see the RAM running at full 800mhz. Now, if you leave it to AUTO, I htink it's a 4:5 ratio which is good but you can always change the timings and ratio/frequency manually.

And the.......buying your G.Skill (HZ I would guess) RAM was a wise idea.

yeah errr you might find this funny nasgul but when I set out to build me a new Conroe PC I wasent sure of what I wanted to get. Well after reading through alot of post here on overclock.net I descided that everytime I saw you post you seemed to make alot of sence. So I pretty much just copied your sig 100% except for the heat sink and power supply haha. My pc will be identical to yours. Cept maybe the overclock cuz I'm a noob lol

Wouldn't it be a bad idea to set it to 2:3? You're RAM is operating way beyond the speed of the CPU. Wouldn't the CPU be unanle to utilize that speed?

lol, all this memory stuff is really confusing to me. I was so psyched to have all this stuff but I dont think I'll be to succesfull with my overclock b/c the memory I'm going to be afraid to mess with.

I tried them all but I just like to rum my RAM faster than the CPU, it's been a habit since I bought my 8000UL two years ago. Call me crazy but I see a tiny difference in performance when running the RAM higher and I will keep using the RAM at higher speeds.

Sunburnti;Check out these settings for overclocking, if you were to get close to what I have:

______

I've changed it to 334 and a 2.30v for memory voltage.

Are you refering to the settings in your sig? b/c I dont see anything after your comment about "checking out your settings" The only thing I see after that is two bars "- -"
