I have Origin installed. I have Steam installed. I get the same experience from both. I don't know how some off you have trouble installing games, annoying pop ups etc etc. Origin for me sits quietly on my taskbar alongside steam and do exactly the same thing.

As for always on... I couldn't care less if its like that or not. Most games nowadays are online or their major feature is online play so I don't see what the big deal is.

1) Steam has an offline mode THAT WORKS. I can play any of my Steam games (valve or not) offline.
2) Valve has earned the communities trust. EA has burned it time and time again.
3) It's also a convenience issue. I have over 200 games on Steam. Why would I want to launch a garbage client that's incredibly buggy and potentially invasive...to play one or two games?

Its really unfortunate I can't give pioneer +Rep, because that post is on the ball.

Screw EA, screw Origin, and now, screw SimCity.

1) Origin has an offline mode too and it actually works for me. While in Offline mode if a game has an offline mode I can launch it.

2) That is quite debatable. There are tons and tons of messages on their forums about buggy game ports on steam late or even lack of patches some games get on their non-steam versions (albeit they are trying to solve this). Heck Anno 2070 was such a pain to get running from my recent purchases.

3) Because steam is equally invasive? I don't get this point. Steam scans your pc as well. How else does it get information about your system and even shares it as demographics now and again.

As I said, personally for me the experience has been quite similar and there are games that Origin has that Steam doesn't, like my C&C games smile.gif I can understand if people just don't want to have both clients running (but honestly whose pc especially on this forums cant handle it) but stating some personal experiences as fact doesn't mean everyone has said experiences smile.gif

So this is going to have a really bad feature of SimSocieties and CitiesXL that requires constant internet connection? EA always manages to disappoint.

The only valid complaint about Origin is that it isn't Steam. It's understandable that EA would want to implement their own DD system to try to replicate the success of Valve.

Origin won't ever replace Steam for me, but I don't share the disdain of it some users do.

I'll bite, and reply to your statement Mr. John Riccitiello:

1) Offline mode has never worked for me in Origin either.
2) Not really. EA has a vast history of screwing over the customers/little guy. Here's some reading material: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electronic_Arts#Criticism
3) Steam is not invasive. If it wants the information about your computer specifications for the hardware survey, it asked in a plainly obvious update box, whereas EA hides it in the TOS.

Nice to see another once great franchise being run into the ground by EA. SC has always been one of my favorites, but this one sounds less and less promising as time goes by.

SimCity has never really been a game you play online, it's always been a singleplayer game (albeit one with a massive modding community behind it) and, in my opinion, should stay like that. The prospect of some bloke on the other end of the world messing up in his city, resulting in yours no longer getting the electricity required is frightening enough, but not being able to play at all when when your internet is down is just plain bone-headed really.

Have you tried the offline?

I actually just tested it now.

Unplugged from the internet. Origin was offline. I clicked play on BF3 (yes BF3) and you know what happened? The game launched in its client (not browser) and allowed me to play the single player mode. So yes it works smile.gif

About the second point, EA is a business its job is to maximize its shareholder's wealth. Its not a charity. Just like every other business out there including Valve. While some of its practices are questionable it is the way our world operates.

As for your sarcastic remark about me being Riccitello /shrug. I am not a fanboy of EA or Valve or Blizzard or whatever. I just stated my experience with Origin. It might not be the same for you but it just shows that each user has difference experiences. Like me saying Steam games have bene a hassle recently.

To WC_EEND i never said the decision to make SimCity always online was the correct one. I just said that this bandwagon about Origin is just getting out of hand. Similarly to how haters hate WoW or Apple or MS or insert company/product name. You might not like it, doesnt mean others dont smile.gif While i aknowledge the fact that SimCity is an offline game (or was) apparently they want to add online features similarly to how Cities XL functioned.

1) Orly? Care to explain how I can get the new SimCity to work in Offline mode then? rolleyes.gif
2) You mis understood my ENTIRE point about Valve on that one sir. I said VALVE, not STEAM. VALVE has earned our trust. There have been NO VALVE ported games, as the Source engine is optimized for PC. So nice try on that one.
3) No, just no. Steam scans your HARDWARE. Origin scans everything. Not the same thing there. Oh, and you can opt out of the Steam hardware scans. You can't opt out of Origin.

Way to completely misread and misunderstand every point I made.
