This is the one game EA gets me on. Depending on it's release DRM, it looks like i'll be waiting until I can run w/o it.

Buy (support the odds of SC6) and "don't use the drm". That's my plan.

2) You mis understood my ENTIRE point about Valve on that one sir. I said VALVE, not STEAM. VALVE has earned our trust. There have been NO VALVE ported games, as the Source engine is optimized for PC. So nice try on that one.
3) No, just no. Steam scans your HARDWARE. Origin scans everything. Not the same thing there. Oh, and you can opt out of the Steam hardware scans. You can't opt out of Origin.
Way to completely misread and misunderstand every point I made.

1) I specifically stated that if a game HAS an offline mode then Origin will run in Offline mode. By your logic Steam operates the same way. Care to explain how CS or TF2 will run if you don't have an internet connection? It has nothing to do with the platform of distribution. That's a game limitation. Not Origin's or Steam's.

2) Even if a game is made for the PC it has to have a sort of port in order to run on STEAM. That is the reason why normal patches don't work on Steam versions smile.gif I specifically said that STEAM GAMES require special patches which come later to the party or not at all, and buggy game ports ON Steam (notice the lack of mentioning PC in general). Hence also my example of Anno 2070. I could care less about Valve games in this discussion. It is a comparison between Steam and Origin. Not about quality of games that a company can produce.

3) I will concede to this point smile.gif

Way to misread and misunderstand my points though smile.gif (see what i did there?)

To Code-Red I don't disagree with you. Unfortunately as consumers we get screwed over everything. Not just in video games but everywhere else as well.

Anyway I will not discuss this issue anymore as it will derail the thread even further which wasn't my intention in the first place just wanted to express a thought smile.gif

1) Okay.....and this thread is about SimCity. A game that is specifically OFFLINE. And now they require you to be online. Care to explain that one? rolleyes.gif
2) This argument is about Valve vs. EA. Not Steam vs. Origin. I said that VALVE has earned the communities trust, and that EA has burned it time and time again. Now you're offshooting this into bad ports....which that isn't what I was talking about at all. Bad ports happen regardless of where you buy it. I was simply stating that Valve has most gamer's trust with their accounts and money. EA....yeah right.
3) Fair enough. smile.gif

Am I the only one who feels like everybody completely skipped over this part in order to support their "EA is evil, I hate DRM" argument?
Quote:
He cited SimCity’s multiplayer features, like the global economy that will let players sell excess resources on a massive connected market, as the reason for the always-online requirement.

I will gladly cope with the "always online" requirement if it means cool features like this. I hate insane DRM just as much as all of you do but, if done right, there can be significant advantages to forcing the player to always have an internet connection. Are you expecting an offline version of Guild Wars 2, WoW, etc. as well?

That should be optional not mandatory. If I want to play the game offline to my liking then I should be able to, that's the whole point of single player. If I want to go online and experience those things then have an option in game to do that.

I've talked to troops in their spare time. They don't seem to have issues with internet connections when on base. If they have some down time while out in the field, I would imagine the first thing they do wouldn't be playing Sim City.

Do any of them have issues with region-locked games? A permanent-connection requirement can be viewed as one part of a region-locking scheme.
