Agreed.

Valve has already stated that if Steam goes down, then the users won't lose their games. I forget exactly how, as that was years ago.

That's true, they've rumored that in the past--wonder if EA will ever take on the same stance as well (don't know that EA has ever said as much though).

EA is yet again forcing me to not buy a game I've been waiting for years.

This is the third time in a year, and in a row. Arr, matey!

NO!
I wanted this game to be good, EA.
I don't even think they're interested in fighting the piracy of their games, or they're entirely clueless as to how. I was forced to crack my copy of C&C 4 because it could never find their servers and they said "Oh well I guess you can't play." And I'm not doing it again. That AND I live in a rural area with no entirely stable connections.

Consumers buy products they feel is worth the listed cost. If they get their game in an acceptable manner, they will buy it. That is why they are buying it, not to support agendas.

There are all kinds of products that people would enjoy but refuse to purchase because they know it contributes to a manufacturer/developer/producer/etc. doing things in a way that is detrimental to something they care about. People don't only boycott products they wouldn't enjoy having, for example, tuna that is not dolphin-safe, the product is identical to dolphin-safe tuna, but it's the way it's made that people don't agree with.

My SC5 won't require an internet connection. thumb.gif

Care to explain how CS or TF2 will run if you don't have an internet connection? It has nothing to do with the platform of distribution. That's a game limitation. Not Origin's or Steam's.
2) Even if a game is made for the PC it has to have a sort of port in order to run on STEAM. That is the reason why normal patches don't work on Steam versions smile.gif I specifically said that STEAM GAMES require special patches which come later to the party or not at all, and buggy game ports ON Steam (notice the lack of mentioning PC in general). Hence also my example of Anno 2070. I could care less about Valve games in this discussion. It is a comparison between Steam and Origin. Not about quality of games that a company can produce.
3) I will concede to this point smile.gif
Way to misread and misunderstand my points though smile.gif (see what i did there?)
To Code-Red I don't disagree with you. Unfortunately as consumers we get screwed over everything. Not just in video games but everywhere else as well.
Anyway I will not discuss this issue anymore as it will derail the thread even further which wasn't my intention in the first place just wanted to express a thought smile.gif

LOL... You basically asked "Care to explain how you can play online multiplayer games offline" because someone was talking about a single player game offline. And you can play CS offline.. not sure if TF2 has bots and/or can. 2) What? Steam is a gaming client.. not hardware. They don't have to be ported - in the event the dev decides to change their mind at the last minute to make them available on steam then, yes, they'd need a patch to use steam features.. but that doesn't happen.

I don't have a cell phone that's that sophisticated. A phone is used to make phone calls....not act as my ISP.

My home ISP dies regularly at random intervals. It's very sporadic at best. I prefer offline single player games due to this very reason.

How about you quit thinking like EVERYBODY is as blessed with internet as you are. rolleyes.gif

Couldn't have said it any better myself. I can't stand to see people always walking around with a damn phone shoved in their face always texting or checking facebook, whatever happen to actually talking face to face with people?

I have a stable internet connection but I also have 5 people that use it and with a 250GB cap we come close to each month I don't need a "always connected" game to pile on top of it.
