man that block looks almost like the nickel is coming off of the copper I swear it does. But, without clearer pictures there is no way for me to be certain. just that it appears the copper is showing through in spots.

after clicking over to the individual pictures to make them larger I swear thats copper showing through at least in the bottom picture it appears that way.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions to quickly... I would say that last picture is just his reflection in the Nickel...

Also tarnished can make a goldish/ copperish coloration.

I wouldn't be surprised if there was a reaction between the dye and coolant as the dye is intended to be added to distilled water and not coolant.

Would it tarnish that quickly though?

Surely they would have thought about the possibility of this happening? And hence made it so it wouldn't?

metals tarnish, its a form of oxidation and is impossible to prevent without some sort of coating like teflon and the coatings are hard to apply in this situation.

tarnishing can happen in a matter of days. find a brand new shiny penny, make sure your hands havent been washed and are really oily, touch the penny all over and then set it down and keep an eye on it. you should start to see discoloration within a few days

I know what Tarnishing is tongue.gif Haha Just didn't think it would happen that quickly. But like you said it could be due to a reaction between the dye and the coolant (I'm sceptical but its a possibility I guess). OP are you able to clean the residue/Tarnish off fully?

FYI - My build/loop is new (about 1 week) and I have only been using the the computer for a few hours a day with my temps hovering around 30c and using Primochill tubing

Please let me know what it looks like when you tear it down. Thanks in advanced.

Mayhems and IDC both said this is probably not the problem.

Again, Mayhems and IDC said the mixture isn't a problem. They told me that its something that happens with IDC because of the nano-particles and the Law of the Wall...no way to avoid it. The problem may have been exaggerated in my setup because of some type of contamination, but I've been very careful to keep things clean and only use distilled water and the dyes.

I'm going to open my CPU block this week to see if the same thing happened on the copper block.

EDIT: I tried my best to clean it with ketchup and vinegar, but I cannot get it off. I have some metal polish that will arrive on Tuesday, so I'll see if that works.

You couldn't buy the metal polish locally? Walmart will even carry some.

I could have, but I love free shipping and no tax from Amazon. I just wait for it to come to me.

Finally took the time to polish it today, and it looks clean as new. No corrosion. All is well, and I (kind of) regret purchasing the copper block for my 680.

I will only be running distilled water through it next time, but I'll take any advice on how to keep things clean!
