GTX 580 SLI or GTX 680? - Page 3

Thinking that the GTX 680 is actually 30% faster than the 580 is indeed gulliable and ignorant, I am sorry if this affects you in a personal manner, but it is solely the truth.

How is calling someone gullible not personal? It has nothing to do with the matter at hand.

And that is NOT to be considered a direct performance increase or even performance advantage over cards with a lower stock clock, which it is not, at least to the obviously more educated ones regarding the matter.

The issue here is that you, for reasons unknown, dismiss the performance gained by the higher clocks of the 680 as if it was some kind of fake performance.

Your analogy is flawed. The 680 is not temporarily faster than the 580. Since it can achieve and sustain 30% higher clocks than the 580, why can you not accept that as a genuine performance advantage?
If you are going to factor in OC for the 580, please do that for the 680 as well.

You have yet to present to us the "correct" values. How much faster is the 680 compared to the 580 by your definition then? Give me some numbers here. 20%? 10? 5?

If the OP can find 580s for cheaper than $700, then that would definitely affect the price:performance ratio, indeed. I was simply working with the numbers provided in the first post.

Listen, I have no personal interest in this matter, I'm simply discussing this because I disagree with your beliefs.

Just reading this post since I have two 580s in my office pc and had two 560 ti 448s in my basement. I just ordered two evga 680s from ebay and amazon to put in my office and will move my 580s to the basement.

Console gaming is for noobs if you ask me.

Anyway. I disagree with the whole arguement that a 680 and 580 running at the same clocks are the same.

Whoever is saying that is telling me that the number of cores doesn't mean anything?

512 cores is the same as 1500+ cores?

Surely you jest.

Someone put up some proof that the 680 and 580 running at the same clocks are the same. I'll bet my 680 they aren't.

Don't get me wrong. Two 580s own. I max out all the Nvidia 3d settings in the control panel with my two 580s and still get 60 fps easy in bf3 and skyrim at 1080p and temps only hit 70.

If you wait another 2-3 months you can easily pick up a 580 for 300 or maybe less.

I got one of my 580's for 320 on ebay two weeks ago and the other for 340.

more and more people will put their 580's up once they have the 680 in hand.

I wouldn't go spending my money on old GPU tech unless there was a design flaw in the newer GPU tech, but that's just me. I'd get a 680, and if I wanted more, I would then sli 680s. I'd always go with the newest tech, then SLI or crossfire. I wouldn't use SLI or crossfire to keep up with newer tech unless you already had some of the old hardware to begin with.

Not the most amazing review, but gives you an idea of the performance of a GTX 580 3GB OC'd to 815 on the core vs a stock and overclocked 680.

Honestly, there's no shame in picking up a couple of 580's and overclocking them in SLI. I've seen some going for 300 flat on ebay.

I'd trade my HD 7970 for two 580's if I had a power supply with enough juice.

What a pain.. I have two gtx 580 i sli, was thinking to sell them and buy a single gtx 680.. But is like going backwards in performance
