Thread Starter
i broke my old asus, so i need a new one. i never got it to work. i need

somthing that will support my ide hard drive, and ide cd player, which my old

mobo did not. around 150 dollars. pref newegg. right now i have

pentuim D 805 2.66 533 fsb.

corsair value select 1 gb ram ddr2 667.

24 pin 460W Power supply

XFX Geforce 7600 pcie

2 old ide hard drives

i definatly know what im doing, but this is my first build so i am a begginer

i dont know if that will affect the recommendation. i dont know much about

overclockling, and i dont plan to overclock. my old mobo would not fit with

my heatsink, because the resistors were poorly placed, and i have a huge

heatsink, anyway, thanks for any help in advance

Here, sladesurfer is selling his P5WD2-Premium for $90 shipped, you won't find a better deal than that.

The P5WD2-Premium is the best MoBo for that Pentium D and learn to overclock, it's easy and maybe you'll get it at least 3.5ghz.

Well, technically the E-Premium is the best in that line, but I love my Premium and it's still running my 920 strong. Definatly, for $90 I would get it and enjoy......HOWEVER, using 2 PATA hard drives and an optical drive will be tricky as the board only has 1 bus that supports PATA boot devices. The other 2 PATA buses are for storage only and you have to install drivers for them during the Windows install using F6 and a floppy disc. And you would have the optical drive and one hard drive on the main bus, and then the other hard drive on the additional ones......

I would say, based on your budget, be a good idea to buy sladesurfer's board, then use the extra money to buy a new SATA hard drive to put your OS on, then you can connect your PATA hard drives for storage on one of the other buses.

Heres a 975x board from $190. Dont know how this board OC's in particular, but 975x is very good and gives you upgrade room for future.
