I have a monitor in my office that doubles as a TV (it's conected to my media pc which houses my video library). I also have a Rogers HDTV cable box connected to it as well (via HDMI).
What I would like is to be able to record video from the cable box to the hard drive of the media PC. I have 2 other PVR's in the house but would rather not spend $600 on another one (or $20 per month rental from Rogers).
Is there a way I could use an internal card to capture video from the cable box and store it as video files in my computer? Are there any output decoding issues from a Rogers cable box and what format could I store the video in? (AVI I assume?).
From a resolution perspective, the TV it is connected to is 720P which I believe is all the HD cable boxes put out. I would like it to record in as high a resolution as possible.
Also from a wiring perspective would the hdmi cable go from the cable box to the PC card and then in turn output to the TV or does it work some other way?
Thanks
Edit: Actually I guess if the cable were to go into the cable box and then output to the tuner card, the hdmi cable from my video card in my pc to the monitor would be sufficient?
I looked at a Hauppage card. It looks like it inputs via S-Video and R/L audio cables. So would my rogers cable box with a hd signal output from s-video and audio wires into the tuner allow the capture of 720p video?
