Water Cooling help please?

Thread Starter
I just got my new rig together and have absolutly no idea where to begin with an entire water cooling setup. For right now I just want the CPU cooled until I find some nice blocks for my 7970's. I want this to be around 150$ project. So i'll list my build below and maybe someone could help me build this setup? I also will be modding my Antec 902 to make it a nice red glossy color here in the near future so I want to liquid setup to be in conjunction with that. Thanks a ton in advance! smile.gif Tons of +reps to be had!

CPU - 2500k (1155 socket)
Mobo- Z68 Asrock (1155 socket)
I'd like to have a 5.5 in front bay resevour with a pump included.
I'd like to have red tubbing to match my GPU's (7970x2)

I'll work on finding the GPU blocks that I like.

a rasa rx360 kit would be your best option ...comes with everything needed for cpu....except distilled water wink.gif...add your gpu block later

slightly above your stated budget but is the least expensive highest quality option thumb.gif

oh and pick up a roll of red tubing, it comes with clear

If you want water for less then $150, then you have to go with a self-contained unit like the H100. For custom loops, you need you increase your budget or you will end up with something that's not doing the job. I went the cheap route and it ended up costing me A LOT more in the long run. But I see that you already have a 620 but you need a bigger budget or it will perform at the same level as your 620.

a good pump is about $80 (655 or 355)
a Good WB is around $60+
Tubing can cost atleast $10
Then there are fittings. $2 per fitting MIN
Radiator will be around $50
Extra fans if you don't have them

The WB is KEY! Never skimp in them. The EK WBs are very nice.
I highly suggest a Res to help with getting the air out of the system. ($25+)

I run the rs360 system on my rig at the stated clocks you see in my sig......my cpu maxes out at 42c my gpu's max out at 43c during stress testing....of course normal operation never gets that warm.
the rs model rad is thinner than the rx i recommended and i use 6 fans in push/pull config to keep things chilly....the rx that comes in that kit is more capable for a cpu and dual gpu setup like i have and you are trying to setup which is why i suggest it.
the cpu water block that comes with the kit is still rated as one of the best...there are of course better for more money but we are only looking at 2c to 3c better performance.
the rad that comes in kit is also one of the most popular and best performers out there....you can't beat these kits for first timer or anybody for that matter wink.gif

also great source for watercooling parts...i see forozencpu was out of stock wink.gif

Thanks guys +reps. I'm just unclear about the whole fittings thing. Would someone explain how the fittings work and they all say like 3/4 to 5/8 or something like that. Why two sizes?
there are different sizes of tubing....the rasa kits and probably most common is 7/16 or 1/2 tubing....i run the 7/16 tubing on 1/2 connectors for a nice snug fit and would be my suggestion...the other measurement you sometimes see in connectors is 1/4 or 3/8 and this is referring to the depth of the threads on connector

also there are different ways the connectors attach tubing just push on over barbs and more expensive that tighten down using a compression design
