Media Cabinet Cooling

Hello All,

First time posting here. I was lead to this forum via a search for media cabinet cooling and found some good information in the thread located here:

I just wondered if anyone had any suggestions in the same vain specifically for cooling components I plan on installing in an Ikea Besta Entertainment Centre.

The right section which is highlighted in red is a closed door cabinet which will hold the following items:

XBOX 360 (x2)
Playstation 3
Popcorn Hour C-200
Alienware X51 PC
Pioneer VSX-520 Receiver

I realize this will generate quite a bit of heat, so I wondered what combination of fans, and fan placements would adequately cool this setup?

Any suggestions you might have would be most welcomed.

Thanks!

Depends on what you have surrounding it to be honest, if you have it against a wall to the right I'd shift it about 3 or 4 inches to the left and have something like a 2x2x120mm fan arrangement in taking air in the base of the middle cabinet and same for the top cabinet. Then I would connect the shelving between the two cabinets with more fans and have an exhaust out the top.

If intaking from the right is not an option, you could do it from the back. But I assume as this is Ikea the back is made of some flimsy card...

I've assumes the bottom drawers are not holding anything... if they are you need merely intake from the top of that drawer and exhaust from the side/back.

With such a big area, creating airflow isn't going to be easy. I reckon you'll need a couple of fans in each position I mentioned, but more would be better.

Would be nice to see how this turns out. Stick up some piccys if you get a chance and good luck smile.gif

Thanks for the quick reply! I should have some space on the right side, so I like your suggestions. Are there particular fans of the type you describe that yo would recommend? I'd prefer they have on/off switches, but that isn't crucial. The backing is the flimsy crap you describe, but I do plan on cutting out circular vent holes at the rear to hopefully help with airflow.

Will definitely take photos as I go and when completed.
