My Phenom II 965 C3 does not overclock :(

Hello friends, I tell you:

First of all, I have this hardware:

M4A78L-M

Kingston Hyper X DDR 2 800mhz

Phenom II X4 965 C3 (CoreTemp indicates that the VID is 1.475v)

Corsair VX450W.

Well, so far I've tried putting the processor to 3.8GHz, raising it by multiplying (not FSB), but I put the Prime95 1.40vy I endured 11 hours without error, but then I played Battlefield Bad Company 2, and 5 minutes play, the game is crash.

I tried several options, set it to 3.6GHz and 1.37v, but nothing gave me errors in the Linx, Prime95, etc.

Previously had an Athlon II X2 250 and got put to 3.4ghz (400mhz or c) without any problem ... wonder why this, being BE, can not: (

You think it can be a problem of instability by the NB Frequency? I have to oc it? (it's 2.0GHz by default).

So far I've only tried to turn up the multiplier to the processor, and set the voltage manually to 1.40v.

Regards

Mix both FSB and mutli. + what graphics and any oc on them? NB gives a nice boost when oc'd. Just game crash or bsod?

Are you keeping the RAM speed stock throughout overclocking? What are your load temps on your CPU? What torture setting are you using for Prime95 (small, large, etc.)

Also, as an FYI, that motherboard is pretty weak for overclocking. I mean, you technically can do it, but because it's only a 4+1 phase design, it's not recommended.

I have HD 5770, but no overclocking smile.gif

Its been my experience that the 965 chip tops out at 3.8 max, as mine wouldn't do 3.8 reliably but runs fine at 3.7. This seems to be the norm when comparing it to other 965 users on anything other than higher end boards. In my case, I have an MSI790X-G45.

Are you talking about the highest OC without changing voltage? Even then, some can do up to 4.2Ghz with no voltage bump, mines 3DMark stable at 4.4Ghz, and its only a 955. Your motherboard (I also have one) isnt the best for OCing, but I got mine up to 4.0 for prime testing, but with unsinked VRMs, it is a risky venture. For the OP, are you talking about the CPU/NB or the NB?

A question friends, in my BIOS there is an option called "VDDNB Over Voltage" You know me voltage refers to "VDDNB"?

VDDNB is the NB voltage.

You still haven't answered my post...

You are probably trying to push it too far in one go, you have to start small.
Also 4+1 power phase isn't the only reason not to overclock.

Look at my board, beast board, but it only has 4+1 power phase. It all depends on the board. I would get some heatsinks for those VRM's though, or get a better motherboard. But you would end up having to go to a DDR3 motherboard.
