Sell 7970s for 680s?

Thread Starter
I'm thinking about doing the swap for a few reasons
1)drivers, they have been a little weird at times with graphical effects and artifacting in several titles
2)overclock, for some reason my cards don't like the idea of overclocking and the fan would switch from %100 to %20-30 in games no matter how demanding or simple it is to run
3)Extras such as MLAA, so far hasn't really sold me as well as FXAA was back with 480s

Im playing games at 2560x1440p and I can sell the cards for about $400 each

So do you think its worth the hassle and extra $200 for the switch or should I just keep my cards?

Thanks

I am in the exact same situation as you, meaning the poor overclock on my card on air and broken fan control as well as artifacting at mediocre clocks (1250/1650). I ended up RMAing mine and curious to see what comes back.

Do you have a high ASIC quality reading via GPUZ?

As for swapping cards, if you are going to do that keep in mind that GK110 will be coming out and that is probably what you want to wait for.

GTX 680 is very nice and the price point is more than attractive at the moment, and I am sure that drivers on launch from Nvidia are better than any release for the 7900 series.

Marginal step up, I dont think its worth it. Most of the same games will be playable at the same high settings with about the same FPS with both cards.

For me, I wont be upgrading my 6950 to either new generation until the GTX 700 or HD8000 simply because there isnt enough performance on the table with these new cards - that is - unless the GTX 680 comes drastically down in price. I am partial to its efficient power usage.

Thanks,
I think I will wait for the GK110 before I swap
Have they announced when the chip line will be out?

And regarding the GPUZ I haven't

If the card is giving you trouble then I would, performance you probably wouldn't notice much if any difference, that's why you wait every couple years to upgrade that way you notice a difference well unless your into world record bench scores.... rolleyes.gif

I actually just got done talking with a buddy of mine who wants me to build a computer for him and said he would pay for one of my cards, maybe both if he feels he needs it.
So if he still decides he is up for it I will switch but otherwise I will wait for the GK110
